Mild Disappointments!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-09-10 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Had any recently?

I was going to have a burger from the meat market/deli in town (they are delicious). I've been looking forward to it all day. Had my order written up. Was thinking about that delicious pepper jack cheese. Was going to eat some awesome fries. I called to place my order and they said they had close the grill early. Now I have no idea what to eat for dinner because nothing else will be as good.

In all honesty, I have been known to starve for hours just because of disappointments like this.

I feel this pain lol.

Yeah, I am just sitting here trying to decide what to eat. But nothing else seems appealing after hyping myself for that burger.

There's no other burger places near you?

Yeah, terrible fast food places like McDonalds and Sonic. :(

Katz Gluten Free Donuts. I bought two boxes because they were buy one get one free. They aren't bad tasting, but just no where near close to a donut (too cakey). Kinnikinnik's are much better.

At least you only had to pay for one box! There are some donut types that are more 'cakey'. Though, those are usually the baked ones.

That the only drink on the PF Chang menu here in the Atlanta airport that looked interesting to me was a mai tai. I mean, I like mai tais. But I kind of wanted something different.

That sucks! I am surprised they don't have a bigger collection. What with Atlanta being such a huge airport.

I had to wait a couple hours for some homemade iced coffee to chill because I forgot to prepare it last night. I considered going to the coffee shop to hold me over, but didn't. Their coffee is expensive and not very good, and would have escalated this mild disappointment to a medium one.

I am too bloated to look nice and feel comfortable in my less casual clothes. I had my whole outfit planned and I had a makeup look I wanted to try. Stupid body.

I'm sorry you didn't get your delicious food. That is a pain.

I hate when I get bloated (usually on my period). I always feel terrible no matter what clothes I wear.

Left my phone at work tonight. We're not supposed to go in the building alone, and plus I don't want to make the trip to work and back twice, so I may not get my phone back until noon tomorrow. And I was supposed to get my crew assignment for this semester's plays yesterday. Except when I opened the instructor's email, the attachment with our assignments wasn't there. And the instructor won't be answering email until Monday.

Oh no! I hate when I leave my phone somewhere. Is that information something you need to know before Monday?

I don't absolutely need it by Monday, but the earlier the better and I don't want to stand out more than I already do--I lost my paperwork for the class (all my classes, fml) and had to get new copies. At least I don't think the missing attachment is my fault. And I may sneak in and nab my phone early tomorrow. I'm caring for a sick relative and frequent 911 calls are a depressing reality around here.

Sorry about your burger. Hopefully they'll be open tomorrow and you can get one then.

I feel ya. I had a kinda similiar disappointment, actually.

Tuesday, I was all excited to get bennys at a diner nearby. I planned out my errands route so I could end there and come home stuffed and happy -- but they're closed on Tuesdays. It was really disappointing, because I could taste the half-n-half bennys with fruit salad, and I was really looking forward to their delicious hollandaise (I'm super picky).

I went to another place same distance in the other direction, which has another magnificent benny that I really enjoyed, even if the hollandaise isn't *quite* my favorite. I had to go home and drop my accumulated errands off and reset, but it just wasn't the same...

Isn't it awful? I had to settle for stupid pizza!

Apparently, if you want a sheet cake that's nice and thick, you need to use a double recepie/two boxes of mix, but no one told me that. The cake I made from scratch definitely didn't rise properly, so that's on me, but the box mix I resorted to still made a very thin cake, even though it was properly fluffy. The box gives baking time for a sheet cake (among other options), but doesn't mention it will turn out thin if you use just the one box.

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-09-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
How thick were you going for? Mine are usually at least 2 inches from a box.

Re: Mild Disappointments!

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
I was getting only about 1-1.5 inches (pretty domed in the middle). Maybe even less along one edge. I even tried it twice, at different oven temperatures and also beating for longer the second time. It's a 13x9 pan, and that's standard sheet cake size, according to the mix box. I didn't grease the sides, either.

When I tried googling about a cake being too thin, one troubleshooting suggestion was "did you use enough batter?" So, since the cake isn't overly densr, I'm wondering if that's the problem.
