And now we won't get any new ones *sniff* RIP GBBO

Hey now, it's not over till the male judge sings...

Nah, the BBC might have a trend of types of people they have on (the older granny one, the masculine man with a masculine job but all the blokes at work love his baking, the yummy mummy who stays at home on the farm, the ethnic one or two etc) but they generally get nice and fairly normal people. Channel 4 are going to go for weird, unusual 'characters' to try and create more inter-baker drama, a la bingate.

Wait, it was cancelled?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, the company who makes it wanted more money than the BBC was willing to pay (they wanted £25 mil, compared to the BBCs offer of £10mil) so they sold it to a different channel. Who knew a tent, and some baking supplies could cost that much?

Well, as long as it is coming back, does it matter? Or is there something about the channel that will host now that makes people think the show will change?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
While neither Paul nor Mary have commented either way, Mel and Sue have both said they would not be joining the show on another network so there will definitely be some change.

And C4 won't produce the comedy after-show show either.

The show has a very particular understated feel that (as other country's spin-offs have shown) is very difficult to reproduce. At least two of the four hosts are going and it's going to a commercial channel.

The format will have to change, because Channel 4 does commercials, so the Bake Off will go from an hour long uninterrupted show with Mel and Sue as hosts to being a 40-45 minute show with regular commercial breaks and no Mel and Sue. Even if Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry stay, that's a significant change.
