I've had this happen with other shows and understand what you mean. But the shows I didn't get around to watching before they were cancelled were all heavily promoted and I've never heard of this, so I wonder if lack of publicity maybe played a role? I can also think of a few shows that didn't release on Netflix or anything before a second season started and so their ratings just kept falling before the show was cancelled, sometimes before finishing the second season. Audiences have proven they like to binge watch but also most shows now have season long story arcs so if someone misses one episode, there isn't any point in watching the rest. Encore showings are great and streaming is essential to build an audience.

It was a mid-season replacement, with a short season (4 and 5 weeks, 2 episodes per week), both seasons. It was basically fighting against its own schedule.
