What are your triumphs, FS? Did you have doubts along the way? Any naysayers or supporters? What do you want to accomplish next?

I made a handbag for myself. I tried a few times but always got it wrong and stopped trying for a year. I used the ones I got wrong all that time and was always worried someone would point and laugh if they looked closely. Finally I got sick of feeling that way and started on a new one. I always keep notes so I knew what mistakes to watch out for and what alterations I wanted to make. I spent a month planning everything and three days to make my handbag. It's very simple but pretty, I didn't make a single mistake, and I've had loads of compliments on it. I love saying, "Thanks, I made it myself!"

Congratulations! I love being able to respond to compliments with "thanks, I made it" too. It's a great feeling.

Congrats!! Handbags are tricky. Always a fantastic feeling when you get a compliment on a handmade item.

I made old fashioned donuts! I didn't think they would be bad but I didn't think I'd actually get that "old fashioned" donut look! They were delicious.

I self-published my book. Doubts, plenty when you hear "no" from agents all the time and don't have anything to back up "people will like this, really!" Then I did get some proof that people wanted a story like mine so I went ahead anyways. I had a few cheerleaders, best friend, aunt, my dad that sort of thing. It really helped.

Next I'd like to finish some short stories in the same universe and publish those too.

Good on you! A lot of people are going the self-publishing route because you get way more creative freedom and you get to keep more of the money from each sale.

Agree with the other anon, though. If you're not all that great with graphics, commission somebody who is. People WILL pass on a book because the cover looks like crap, unfortunately.

Congratulations, anon! I know there's at least one self-publishing hater on FS, but honestly, it works out great for some people and it's worth a try. A few tips:

* Do have it edited by someone who knows what they're doing, and that includes both proof reading AND constructive criticism on the actual writing itself, i.e. plot, characterization, etc.

* Try to have the best cover you can and remember that it has to look good both in large and in thumbnail size.

* Network with other writers as much as you can.

GOT A JOB! LIKE A BOSS! (not actually like a boss)

I'm moving to the city I wanted to move to, have a job with an organization I admire... the salary is crap and I was too afraid to negotiate, though considering no one else has called me back and just this morning I got a few rejection e-mails from other jobs I applied to, I'm just happy to be there. :D Now I have to... move across the country, from a lazy small city to a huge intense city.

Good luck! Big cities can be really different, but mostly they have awesome public transport and lots of cheap or "free" entertainment.

I finished law school, passed the bar, and am now a lawyer. It is easy to forget sometimes when I'm frustrated about the lack fo jobs, but both are a pretty big deal.

I own my house.

You wouldn't believe how many people would tell me "you don't want a house". Not that I couldn't get it, but as if it was some act I was putting on and I didn't really want a house?!

Like yes, I'm saving up a 20% deposit for attention and not because I'm serious >_> sure.

My family was hugely supportive though, if bummed out it was in a different state.

Next...wouldn't mind a second house in 10 years :P Hahah next I would like to accomplish a permanent job at the lower-middle-management level. I've got a contractual position so gathering that XP.

Well, it sort of counts - for the first time, I had two of my digital drawings printed on canvas, and now one is hanging in my living room, and one in my room.
I've never really had drawings I felt comfortable enough displaying in this way, and a lot of my digital drawings are more comics-y and so less appropriate for living room hanging, I feel. But I finally got some done, and I'm pretty stoked.
It makes me want to draw more "usable" stuff, and not just the sketches and things I've been doing.

I washed my car and am doing my laundry!

I also had a party at my apartment, which is kind of a big deal for me. We just didn't have people over, when I was growing up, and as I enjoy doing so, it's something I have to really work up to and prep for.

On Saturday I ran a half marathon, 13.1 miles. It poured. I had ran a half back in May. In May I finished at 3:01:19. Saturday? 2:43:23. Really! I'm not sure how I did that. Well normally there is proper running training and I sort of did not follow that. Most of the runs I would train for were in humid weather. Saturday it wasn't humid (just very wet).

But really! I did that!

I got a ticket because my car inspection was past-due. Got it inspected immediately and then went to the courthouse and they dismissed the ticket.

I get really panicky when I feel like I've done something wrong and gotten in trouble, in the little kid 'I have to go to the PRINCIPAL and this will go on my PERMANENT RECORD and I have ruined all my chances of living a normal adult life and my parents will hate me forever' sort of way. So even if it was only a minor ticket, it still felt like a huge deal.
