I probably hate it due to the type of people this sentiment always came from; they didn't actually give a single whiskey-flavored shit about what was happening to me, but wanted to look like they did. Offering to pray made them feel like they were doing good with the least amount of effort.

I realize not everybody means it that way, but since that was always what it meant to me before I left that nuclear rathole of a church community, that's the type of person I always associate it with. Someone who wants to look helpful but doesn't care enough to be helpful (or honest if they know they can't really help).
