Okay, I haven't done extensive research on the subject, but I've read the Wiki pages. So if I've missed something, you can disregard what I'm saying.

But for the love of fuck, could we not go making erroneous claims about new characters just because they're female and OMG a threat to the buttsecks? Jesus manloving CHRIST. As far as I know, there is no established information on XIV other than she's female. This doesn't give anyone grounds to go and assume she's going to be a Mary bloody Sue. Larxene was a member of the Organization? Was she a Mary Sue? No, she was a kick-ass, take-no-shit powerbitch with a vendetta and a wicked if frightening penchant for Marquis de Sade.

So maybe, maybe we can just stop ragging on chicks for once because OH GOD NO THEY MIGHT SNATCH UP MAH BISHIEZ and maybe instead we can just wait and if it happens, BITCH ABOUT IT THEN.

She won't be a "threat to the buttsecks". None of the other girls are, she won't be, and nobody Kingdom Hearts can be a threat to anything, there are no canon pairings between anybody but the Disney characters. The "ships them with somebody else" line was more about my nervousness of the subject.

I just think she'll be mad annoying, like Rinoa. The only way she won't be is if they're working in a White Mage for gameplay purposes or if she's Aqua. And I like Larxene, but she's definitely not kick-ass. :/ She's actually very weak. I also like most of Nomura's female leads (Aerith, Garnet, Kairi), but for some reason my Rinoa-senses are tingling more than my Aerith-senses in this case.

Supposedly XIV is "a female who has influenced Roxas in his future actions, however she is too much of an important character in the story to talk about." In 358/2, we will learn "who she was and why she was forgotten."

There's other quotes that cause me more dread. :|

Truly, Larxene's kick-assness is a subject of personal opinion. What I was trying to get at there was that she was blatantly not a Mary Sue, in any case.

Still. Axel influenced Roxas, Sora influenced Roxas, Naminé influenced Roxas, and there's no need to dread any of them. If the new character were male, none of these allegations would be made. Instead, people would already be shipping XIV with Roxas, as well as half the rest of the Organization, and probably a few self-inserts. There is a double standard there, and there's nothing I hate more than double standards. Except actual Mary Sues.

It's fair of you to have that fear that she won't be a strong character. But it's not fair to assume and call her a Mary Sue outright when her established canon is vague at best. It remains baseless. I fail to see how her influencing someone (IE: doing anything in the plot), being integral to the story, or having any sort of history makes her a threat to canon sanity. It sounds to me like it makes her a round character. It's true she wind up being a Mary Sue, but reasons like that just aren't enough to go and chew her out for such a heinous crime before she even has a name.

P.S. If I flamed, I didn't mean to. I was actually just going for "disagreeing vehemently."

Oh, please. When has a male character ever been introduced like this? It generally doesn't happen, except in the case of Genesis in Crisis Core, and what happened? People were pissed off and called him a Sue. Yes, really.

Really, who cares if a character is male or female? It's a fourteenth member of Organisation XIII. That's what makes me suspicious.

Just sayin' I think the fandom likes him rather well enough. Genesis got thrashed because he's based on Gackt (assumed self-insert), but that means no one actually gave the character a chance (to learn he's actually annoying like lit-quoting, musical loving freaks are ::self-aware poster is self-aware::). Yeah, but Zack was never presented as anything but a SOLDIER first class; sure, he was awesome, but it was never implied he was the only one of his kind, that he never had anyone he looked up to, or even that he was the best. Sephiroth was supposed to be special, a monster born from Hojo's demented mind, the only living descendant of Jenova, the source of anguish for so many, from his birth to his death.

Sure, most people do ironise over the walking self-promoting unit calling himself Gackt, but the real gripe tends to be with his twisting of the canon (which is where I think the true test of Sue-ness lies).

Hm, I haven't actually seen anyone say this. In the comments I've read, the sentimesnt tends to match mine; a fourteenth memeber of Organization XIII is worrying. Of course, it's not like I presume she'll be a Sue before actually playing. I just think her position makes it a possibility. It is the premise of countless Sue-fics, you know.

Ah, poor Aeris. I cried so much when I reached that part (yeah, I'm a sap). But I don't think something as trivial as character death will affect the feelings in fandom; after all, the most popular characters are still the Organization, and they're pretty dead, yeah? XD

Perhaps not on the whole, but I wouldn't put it past at least part of the fandom (the part that hates on all or most female characters "on principle") not to subject him to the same treatment female fourteen is getting.

But who cares about the immature, badficcing, and blind to canon batshit crowd? There's one in every fandom, but they tend to be rather insulated.

Nitpick! Garnet's NOT a Nomura character. She's an Amano and Itahana character. (The more you know~)

Indeed; no blonde hair for her. :P I'm assuming that was probably Itahana's idea. Amano just did the concept art, as far as I'm aware. The outfit pretty much stayed the same, just less-decorated.

I also thought the face-shape was very different, though considering Amano's style that's no real surprise. The only time real affort to keep his style in the games was for FFVI, wasn't it? Otherwise he's mostly done concept art, I think.

I actually love the game art of FFIX, so I don't mind that they look different from Amano's original drawings. The connection is just not very obvious unless you know about it, I think. I don't much care for Garnet's outfit though. That orange jumpsuit... *Shakes head*

Probably mostly concept art, I'd imagine. His art's got a very distinct style, and the end result always seems to end up looking a good deal different on the screen than it did on paper. XD I can't speak for any of the games older than VII; I'm a bit of a franchise n00b. But I imagine you're probably right.

I love the game art as well. And the game itself. I think the only reason I knew the art wasn't Nomura's was because of the whole fiasco with Kingdom Hearts. He didn't want to use any of IX's characters in KH because they're not his, but he finally caved and threw Vivi in there to appease the ~~screaming masses~~ IX fans. XD; As for Garnet, I loved her outfit when she had the white and pink cloak on over it! And then she ditched it and I was sad. XD
