Re: Book club - GRACELING discussion!!!
So I've come around to the graces and their special, unique eyes. Especially since aside from at the start, the eyes are not lingered on overly as to become annoying and repetitive.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-29 02:06 am (UTC)(link)Though with Katsa's Grace for (supposedly) killing, I expected her to be able to like, insta-murder with her mind. I was glad it was more unmagical than that.
Re: Book club - GRACELING discussion!!!
It reminds me of the secret and discussion about food descriptions in literature that we had recently. In this case with the chef being Graced I would have loved a little more detail on the food! What did he cook? How was it different from an ordinary cook's work?
I didn't even think about the "kill with your mind" thing which is funny because I've seen that skill in other canons. It definitely would not have worked as well for the story, at all. I do wonder if that is a Grace people could have though. I mean if mind reading exists, why not? That would be really frightening. And interesting...

Re: Book club - GRACELING discussion!!!
Then I remember in the old days I had OCs with blue hair and purple eyes so young me would have loved it.
and I really like the coloured eyes popped up at random stages, so just because your kid made it to 5 or 10, they're not out of the "risk" zone. I wouldn't mind finding when they're conventionally considered a safe age, if coloured eyes can pop up in a settled 20 or 30.
I also like they could have coloured eyes from birth but not know what they're good at for years. A kind of graceling limbo of what am i what do i do.
