What big events do you have zero interest in?

[personal profile] belladonna_took 2016-10-01 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I can't contain my lack of excitement about grand final weekend.

Halloween. I am just not a huge fan and no kids ever come to our house anyway. :( Might go to a haunted house this year though.

Yeah we don't really do halloween here so I get that. It's weird being in costume unless you're with a large group of people who are also wearing costumes.

I love haunted houses! I want to go to one of those big outdoor mazes too.

I can't usually afford to dress up and for a bunch of reasons I can't really deocrate, but I look forward to Halloween every year anyway just for the horror movies and stuff.

Halloween isn't much of a thing here so the uproar on the internet is always a bit strange to me, but I don't begrudge people having fun or whatever I just find the sheer number of meme's and excitement surrounding it a little bemusing.

The dressing up part seems fun though.

I can't help myself, I get excited about everything.

That said I'm not wild about the SuperBowl

... and the week after the sporting thing when everyone is talking about the sporting thing. SuperBowl is football, right?

ugh, I fucking hate the superbowl. I actually like sports in general, but football is just so goddamn boring to me and I don't understand why everyone in my family is obsessed with it (plus I live in Texas, so even high school football is an enormous deal to people)

Basically everything at the moment. Olympics were ultra meh, world cup of hockey was basically meh, elections shit can't end soon enough.

...We just passed the 400ppm CO2 mark. We're fucked. Everyone's wasting time on petty shit and we've fucked ourselves for the rest of time. The world is more than likely actually ending now.

Cool.

There's a world cup of hockey?

Pessimism! More advanced life forms from other planets might take pity on us and take us to their planets to perform mindless repetitive tasks that we can't possibly mess up with our stupidity.

elections shit can't end soon enough.

Yeah, I'm REALLY looking forward to Election Day getting here as fast as humanly possible so this insane campaign season can finally end.

(Mind, if Trump wins, that's going to suck and bring its own new problems.)

Politics? Actually really I kid, I do have a lot of interest in it. I just hate all the damn build up to it! How long has this been going on now? Since 2012?

All the nominee deciding stuff is weird to me. Our election candidates are chosen in-house and usually they're already our current leaders or the next most qualified. Hell. Sometimes the parties shuffle them out mid-serving term without consulting us.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-01 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The US presidential election. Not like it's not important and I'm definitely going to vote, but I can't stand how the news is nearly wall-to-wall campaign coverage and has been for weeks. I just want it to be over!

Also, I'm really not into autumn this year. That's not really a big event, but I usually like fall and it's weird that I don't now.

I always find it weird that it seems to get more obnoxious as the election gets closer. I always know who I'm voting for as soon as the candidates are announced. There are still undecided people? Still!?

I keep forgetting we actually have to vote and put this shitshow to a rest fairly soon.

Olympics, football world cup, any football match really, darts finals, Wimbledon, snooker tournaments, basically any large sporting or gaming event. And surprisingly the Chelsea Flower Show too. I like the other national flower and garden festivals, but Chelsea leaves me cold. It has gotten too manufactured even by Chelsea standards. Although I hear next year is going to have a lot of Brexit themed gardens so that should be interesting. I expect barbed wire, animal snares, and bare concrete walls to feature prominently.

Anything sports related. Just don't care.

I'm usually way into Autumn, but it is just such a non-event in Texas that I can't get excited.

any of the Texas-specific things. Like all the stuff related to the Alamo. That's big here in San Antonio, and I couldn't care less. Not a period in history I care about at all.

Wasn't that in the 1800s? I guess it's a big thing to people because it happened there.

That's pretty weird to me. Then again, my county's written history is a lot shorter than the rest of the world's.

Most big sporting events. I will watch the superbowl because I enjoy the company and food that tends to come with it, and the commercials. I will watch some events in the Olympics. But for the most part I don't care and find them boring.

O I was like this until last weekend. Then I met a Herald Sun reporter who explained to me why the Bulldogs' run was important and I got invested. I was in Melbourne yesterday (unrelated) and the buzz was terrific, especially in Federation Square. I was so pleased when the Bulldogs won, though I'll probably never get that invested again.

I don't really care for the Superbowl.

I don't care about Coachella, even if musicians I really like do it.

I stopped caring about Comic Con (specifically SDCC) a few years ago.

Christmas and halloween stuff out in the stores.

*sighs*

At least one of them comes with paid days off.
