Back Pain

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-10-02 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, besides meds and heating pad, what can I do for a sore back? I'm not at the point where I can even do stretches yet because I can't even bend over. I do have some epsom salts, but I don't think I could get back out of the tub even if I got down into it. I'm taking the max doses of naproxen and Tylenol I can. Is there anything else I can do?

Warm baths. As warm as you can stand. Or if you know someone with a pool then go float in that. It soothes the muscles and takes weight off f them, plus see a fucking doctor you daft twat.

I did. He gave me the stretches and told me to take it easy for a few days. Which I have been doing. And I'm worried about trying a bath because I'm worried I won't be able to get back out of it.

Keep your phone handy, that way if you get stuck you can call the fire department to come rescue you. It should look great on the "and finally" segment of the news.

It depends on what's causing the pain? But I guarantee you can do some gentle stretching (not all stretches require to you bend over, plus, stretching isn't about creating any particular pose so much as helping your body unravel just a little from wherever it is).

If you're in this much pain, you might want to see a doctor/physical therapist: if nothing else, they may be able to give you some directions on stretching with your range of motion.

Magnesium you can rub on and take internally (there are lots of different varieties available). Should help recovery, and prevention in future

Depending on the cause of the back pain, now that there are OTC Lidocaine patches, you could numb a certain area and it might get you to the point you can stretch and move around a touch or soak in a tub.

When I had severe back pain (I ended up at a chiropractor twice a week for awhile) due to a pinched nerve, the doctor said that I needed to keep moving. Even if it was just a shuffle, and even if it hurt some, I had to move. As staying still / lying down a lot was causing the muscles to contract. While moving stretched and relaxed them and helped in the long run.

Other than that, if you don't think you can take a bath, I found hot showers helped.
