Do I tell my coworkers I'm leaving or do I just...disappear? I'm not really close to any of them. I did tell the one person I started out with.

I'd just leave.

Leaving the job? City? Country? I mean, it'll be kind of obvious you're not there when you just stop coming, so I don't think there's anything wrong with saying, "Hey guys, I'm moving on to a different job."

You don't need to like... say things like, "It's been nice." "I'll keep in touch." etc if you don't think you'll do that (or it's been a fucking nightmare), but to me personally it'd be weird if someone just sort of stopped coming to work one day without warning (unless they were fired).

Are they people you work with regularly? Tell them. You're an adult. You don't have to go into tearful farewells, but it's normal to give co-workers a heads up, especially if it potentially affects their own work, but mostly because it's the adult thing to do.

There's really no downside to telling them, if you can stand doing it.

You could just email them on your last day to let them know you were moving on.

A polite email saying goodbye and wishing them the best never goes amiss. Maybe add them on LinkedIn if that's something you or they use.

Disappear, but leave behind a sock. Maybe they'll think you were Raptured.

Gift Exchange

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-10-18 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I am doing the Reddit Trick or Treat Gift exchange. I already got my person some candy. I was also going to send them something separately thru amazon. He is a huge fan of Star Wars and I wanted to combine that with something Halloween-y. Do you think an adult male (who I know nothing about in regards to personal life) would enjoy a Star Wars themed candy bowl or would it just be something to clutter up his life. Like this.

If not, what is something horror/Halloween related that is also related to Star Wars.

I like Star Wars and I'd think that's awesome, but I'm not a guy! Eh, hope that's helpful.

I have some nifty athletic long socks with the Empire logo on them. I don't know the price requirements, but I'm sure you could find them on Amazon.

I think lots of guys would love that, especially the nerdy type of guy. There's nothing particularly gendered about it and everyone loves candy!!

Looks like it would make a good catchall when the candy's gone. My husband loves gimmicky shit he can store things in like that. Anyway, if this guy thinks it's clutter, I assume he can find his way to his local Goodwill, yeah? Plus, candy. I think it's a great idea.

Investments

(Anonymous) 2016-10-18 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I have $1000 in my bank account that I'd like to invest. Is there any options to invest that amount of money for like...10 years and get some return on it? If return is even the right word.

Re: Investments

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, if that's all you have in savings, don't. You may need it for an emergency fund, and most investments won't let you withdraw money that easily. Keep saving up your money and budget sensibly.

Go for companies that have little to no debt and a lot of capital, and that make/do things that are indispensable. I get dividends several times a year from the companies I'm invested in, and I don't have to work.

Driving with Vertigo

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-10-19 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I have to drive tomorrow morning for about 45 minutes to get to my Spanish class. I really need to go. However, my sinus issues have caused severe vertigo the past couple of days. I already skipped some errands I needed to do because I didn't feel comfortable driving.

Does anyone have any tips for driving while dizzy?

Re: Driving with Vertigo

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Have you tried taking Dramamine/Bonine?

Re: Driving with Vertigo

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Short answer? Don't.

I had a friend who drove while tired. He ended up dying and causing serious injury to someone else when he apparently got tired and drove across the center line. It would be very easy to have a small moment when dizziness caused distraction and you ended up in a similar situation. No class is worth the lives of you and the people around you.

Please don't drive that long with vertigo. It's super dangerous. Do they have Uber or Lyft where you live?

procrastination and motivation

(Anonymous) 2016-10-19 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm rapidly reaching a point where my crippling fear of failure which leads to helpless procrastination is going to screw me over big time.
I want to kick it. I want to change. I want to actually succeed at my career, or at least fail knowing I gave it my all.

Do you guys have any suggestions of techniques that will help? I feel so pathetic, because I know that I need to "just do it", but I've sunk so deep into procrastination hell that it takes a monumental effort for me to get anything done, anymore.
