I really, really dislike the idea of people using stuff like Patreon for fanart because I feel like that crosses certain moral lines. Like, it's one thing to charge money for commissions or for actual physical prints of something, but charging money just to let people view your fanart? No. I think that's wrong. It's not your creation or your characters, you shouldn't be making tons of money off it.

I've paid for commissions before and will happily do it again because they're making something for me at my request to my specifications. "I want to see X doing this thing with Y." But people selling access to their fanart crosses the line for me. Copywrite laws vary and have changed a lot but the general rule in fandom for decades now is that you don't draw negative attention to the fandom by profiting off it. I'm very uncomfortable with changing that and think fans who do that are the entitled ones, not the fans who are unwilling to pay.
