(Anonymous) 2016-12-04 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)I only read the books through once, and I don't remember if there was anything about Hermione looking unattractive as an older teen at the end. I vaguely remember people commenting that they were making Watson look too cute (and this was at a point in the movie series when she and the character were still younger) and that Hermione's hair was supposed to be really bushy and wild and her front teeth were prominent. I don't recall the teeth thing from the books, but again: only read them once.
The thing about childhood cuteness and adult cuteness is that the former does not necessarily lead to the latter and the latter doesn't require the former. You never know how people's facial structure and fat distribution and so on will change as they grow up.

It's mentioned maybe once a book for the first two and then there's a moment in Goblet of Fire where she gets them shrunken down after a magic fight and that's the end of it.
