Favorite cancelled TV shows that no one remembers?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-15 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
So we're not talking about Firefly or Pushing Daisies, but what TV show did you really like that you never hear anyone talk about anymore?

It doesn't have to be super obscure, just fairly forgotten.

Life With Bonnie.
Twelve years later and I still wish it would come back, that was the pinnacle of Friday night to my 12 year old self.

The Middleman. It was on the wrong network to actually get watched, but it was so cute and fun.

Helix. It was a bizarre ride that wasn't afraid to go off in strange directions. It was also nothing like the show the ads marketed it as. Oops.

Wonderfalls. The whole concept was fantastically bizarre and I wish it had continued long enough for me to find out where they were going with it.

Korg: 70,000 BC

For those of you who aren't old farts like me, this was a live-action kids show in the 1970s about a family of Neanderthal cave people and their day-to-day lives and struggle for survival. It was narrated by Burgess Meredith, was only on for a season (19 episodes), was educational/based on what was known scientifically about Neanderthal folk at the time, and I loved it.

Outcasts, nice science fiction, didn't have time to get legs.

Eleventh Hour (US)
It only had one season but I really loved it. I thought the cases were fun, and I loved that the FBI protector was a woman and the weird scientist she had to protect was a guy. Their chemistry was great, and I'm glad it was never romantic. Plus, Rufus Sewell.

Then there's stuff from my childhood that were kind of cheesy but I loved them: Kung Fu Legend Continues, Cleopatra 2525, etc.

I would not even call this a favorite but it was so fascinating.

Anyone remember the reality show Kid Nation? Where a bunch of kids have to live by themselves and try to win with their little teams. That was such a weird show.

Idk if it counts as cancelled, since it was probably intended to be a one-off miniseries, but I'm putting in a word for Takin' Over the Aslyum, possibly the best TV show I've ever seen.

I really liked Breaking In. It was legitimately funny and even though all the cast changes in the second season definitely hurt it I still think it was a good show (poor Bret Harrison is always in shows that get the axe.)

I see people talk about this one sometimes but I also have to say I really miss Go On.

Wonderfalls and Reunion.

I don't think I'll ever stop being bitter that FOX canceled Reunion in the middle of the first season when, honestly, it was a one season series concept.

ETA: Also Raines, that Jeff Goldblum detective series, the pilot for which, coincidentally featured Alexa Davalos of Reunion.

Shark. Wacky lawyer antics for the win! I think I wrote more fic for this show than any other fandom I've ever been in.

American Gothic (1995 version). Gary Cole and Lucas Black both played their roles perfectly. Actually, everyone did. I still impersonate Merlyn whenever I say "Someone's at the door." And it still gives my spine a little chill.

The War at Home. I really enjoyed that show and I own the first season, but no one remembers it and the second season was never released on DVD.

Life. It was great for a cop show, I loved the main characters, and I loved that they didn't try to make them a couple. At least it got an ending to the big plot even if it was obviously rushed.

Tomfoolery and the Curiosity Shop. I was OBSESSED by both those shows as a kid and nobody remembers them. I could only find a 10 minute clip of Tomfoolery on youtube and an even shorter clip of the Curiosity shop that was mostly opening credits and very blurry black and white.

Dirty Sexy Money.

Homefront

(Anonymous) 2016-12-16 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Such a good show, set just after WWII, very early Kyle Chandler (also Tammy Lauren, John Slattery, and Jessica Steen).

Sydney - sitcom with Valerie Bertinelli and Matthew Perry, silly but fun

Tour of Duty - drama set in Vietnam

Something Is Out There - a cop and an alien medical officer solve crimes

Covington Cross - family drama set in 14th century England with Ione Skye and Glenn Quinn

The Powers That Be - darkly humored sitcom set in Washington DC about a politician and his family (John Forsythe, Holland Taylor, Peter MacNicol, Valerie Mahaffey, David Hyde Pierce, Joseph Gordon-Levitt)

Reasonable Doubts - about a deaf ADA and the gruff cop assigned to work with her (Marlee Matlin and Mark Harmon)

Strange Luck - D. B. Sweeney as a freelance photographer with strange luck

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles - but only the episodes that focused on teen Indy (Sean Patrick Flanery)

Rescue 77 - paramedic drama with Christian Kane, Marjorie Monaghan, and Victor Browne

Spy Game - spy action with Linden Ashby (very dated, now)

Journeyman - Inconvenient time travel! Adults mostly behaving like adults! Brothers! A potential love triangle that does NOT become a love triangle! Great women and awesome music spanning 40 some odd years! I love that show so much.

My Own Worst Enemy: Christian Slater Jekyll and Hydes it up as a boring g family man and secret super spy.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith: Scott Bakula and Maria Bello as spies forced to work together. It's handful of episodes were a thousand times better than the Pitt/Jolie movie of the same name.

Some of My Best Friends: Based on "Kiss Me, Guido" and starring Jason Bateman.
