Re: What do you consider a rip off?

Designer clothing/accessories. I don't care if I wake up tomorrow and I'm a billionaire, I will never, ever pay $5000 for some ugly ass purse just because it's a designer piece.

See, I own some relatively low-end designer stuff, as in the most expensive of it retailed for $500-$600 dollars new. And I expect a couple of the pairs of boots I have to outlast me, provided I take them to a good cobbler every couple of years. But I couldn't justify a designer bag for myself, because I am hell on purses. My purses take a beating until they literally fall to bits.

Yup, this. I'll pay big money for something *very well made* that will not fall to bits on me (like, i'd pay a lot for good, waterproof, winter boots), but screw paying for a label. That's just dumb.

I kinda agree, I kinda disagree. Back in 2007, Louis Vuitton came out with a now rather infamous bag that cost $45,000.00 US, was limited to an edition of two dozen, and was a patchwork bag made of fragments of other Louis Vuitton handbags, called Frankenbag by some. Google it if you'd like, it's absolutely hideous. However, it sold out. Somebody bought each and every bag. Whether they liked the looks of it or the exclusivity of it is another story. I'm with you here, who would spend that much money on an ugly bag, no matter how exclusive, heh.

On the other hand, I have a pair of good boots that are designer (but not Louis Vuitton), that are so well made that they will last the rest of my life with just a little care. These boots weren't cheap, they were a major purchase for me and I debated buying them for a few years before finally taking the plunge. I bought one good pair of quality boots for a pretty penny, rather than several pair of inferior boots over the years for a comparable amount. They are worth it, to me.
