And the X-Files! Dana Scully is a heroine to a generation of young women for a reason (and that reason is: she is awesome, in a real human way, not as a 2-D Strong Female Character) And there was only one episode in which she did not appear (IIRC) -- it's called "3" and it's awful. The show could survive without Mulder*; Scully was vital.
*Not very well, though.

You don't see them pitting against each other over their jobs or some guy, they don't have antagonistic relationships with the women the male team members are married to or dating (and I also like that they didn't make any of the women the men were with jealous and suspicious of their female co-workers in turn). Instead, they're supportive of each other and will go to bat for each other. It's such a refreshing thing to see in a TV show.

I would also add Elementary, as Joan is just as important as Sherlock. And I would add Legend of the Seeker. There were so many interesting female characters, from protagonists to antagonists, supporting characters and more.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager
The Good Wife
Grey's Anatomy
Lethal Weapon (well, Riggs and Murtaugh are the leads, but Trish is almost as important, and I would say Det. Bailey and Dr. Cahill are as important as Scorsese, Cruz, and Avery)

(Anonymous) 2017-02-02 10:25 am (UTC)(link)As for movies, one I haven't seen mentioned yet is 10 Cloverfield Lane. It's a pretty great movie, and the female protagonist is excellent.
