Apparently the Super Bowl is today. Does anyone feel like the hype for it this year has been pretty low? Usually even I am a bit excited to watch the game but I didn't even know it was this weekend until I saw some cakes at the store for it.

TBH, I feel like here in the states, hype in general is pretty low.

But I'm also not a sports person, so I generally don't notice a lot anyway, however you're right that I haven't really heard any buzz about it at all.

It is. I'm a football fan and I don't care for either team, tbh, although if I have to pick a winner I'm going for Atlanta simply because the Cheatriots uh I mean Patriots don't need another win.

I'm going to a Super Bowl party, but that's mainly as a good excuse to eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, and gamble. I didn't know the Super Bowl was today until I got invited.

FEEL THAT LOW HYPE.

(But, seriously, Falcons are gonna win. Bur needs that supplemental income!)

The hype is WAY down. We ran an office pool and my parents are going to the bar for food, but otherwise it's been way lowkey compared to past years.

It also may because my area doesn't have anyone in the superbowl and we don't care for either teams to root for.

I think the hype is probably low because the all-consuming vortex that is the deterioration of American politics has taken much of the attention that would otherwise have gone to the Super Bowl

That said I'm probably not watching, fuck the NFL

I'm more excited for the Incredible Dog Challenge finals, airing right now in my time zone. I don't particularly care who wins the Super Bowl this year, and just hope for a good game. I will not be tuning in to the halftime show, because why the hell should I put myself through that.

I've gotten some ads for it in the mail so I knew it was happening, but I'm not a sports person so I'm personally never hyped and don't know who is even playing.

Who's playing could have something to do with it? Like if they are not teams people are generally fans of then they won't be all that interested. It also makes a big difference when "your" team is playing, then hype is always huge (this is also why I hate when teams from my city do well, but then I've also been sexually harassed by drunken sports fans and the last city I lived in had riots after sports games.)

Nobody really cares about Atlanta but New England is probably the most successful and controversial football team in the league and has been for like 15 years

I just pay zero attention and have very few friends who care about it at all so it's not really on my radar. I don't really watch TV and most of the radio stations I listen to don't really hype it up either. so idk if the overall hype is low but for me there's just not much hype and I haven't seen much.

also I kinda wonder if everyone who doesn't live in Boston isn't just completely tired of the Patriots at this point

Well, I'm in the UK so in general no1curr, but even my American colleagues don't really seem too interested. Apparently several of them are planning to stay up for the whole game (and that's on them) but there's no big group event happening.
