Computer

My computer's fan or engine seems to be running constantly. It just seems to be making a lot of noise all the time, and I'm not sure what exactly to do. I've updated drivers, cleaned up what I can clean....it just doesn't sound good. It seems to be running programs alright, if a little slow on some. Is it just something I should ignore or is there a possible solution I could implement?

Can you determine which fan it is?

Also, how old is this PC and have you ever dusted it out? Has the fan always been running and you're just now noticing?

NAYRT

You're back!

I'm really glad you're back and I hope you're doing better now.

I need to thank you for this comment because I exclusively look at icons and kind of absentmindedly skim over everything else, so I did not realize this was Dethtoll.

Thank you. I've just been busy and had other priorities.

The fans have always run a tad louder than 'normal' computers, but it seems super loud lately. Seems to be the fan on the side, not the one on the back. If that makes sense.

It's about 4 years old now. (Jeez, time flies.) I used to take much better care. But in the past two years I haven't had much time for it. It probably hasn't been taken apart and properly dusted in over a year, come to think of it.

By "fan on the side" you mean it's on the motherboard, not ventilating out of the case?

Yes.

Sounds like your CPU fan needs looking at. It might just need a good dusting.

Thanks. Now that you've pointed it out, I do feel foolish for not dusting the whole thing for so long. I'll pick up some air tomorrow and take it apart after work. See if that helps.
