I wish there were more serious, plot-centric and alternative genre BL anime out there. I mean, Ai no Kusabi is certainly a BL, but it's also plot and sci-fi focused, and despite being such a defining title in the BL genre, I also feel it transcends it. There's a lot of non-romantic plot, and even the romance plot, while very intensely "yaoi-esque", is treated really viciously. I mean, when *spoilers* it ends with Rikki literally getting his dick chopped off, Iason gets his legs blasted off, and they double-suicide, I think it's safe to say it's not quite the same ballpark as Junjou Romantica.

Anyone have any other recs? The only other serious-plot epic that has gay sex I can think of is Mirage of Blaze. I guess the connecting factor is that both are based off of novels, not manga.

I was wondering if anyone was going to bring up Mirage of Blaze. That anime left me feeling uncomfortable and confused. But I will agree it was plot heavy. I almost want to watch it again.
