Anti-depressants

(Anonymous) 2017-02-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like the idea of being on them, mainly due to the numerous negative side effects I've had previously. But I'm beginning to think my lack of motivation or ability to get anything done is a result of my depression and anxiety and is really affecting my life. But I'm really wary of going on them because of past experiences. Plus, I don't have much faith in my current doctor to really listen to my worries without brushing them off as paranoia, but I don't have any options to change doctors due to insurance and lack of options in my area.

I would love some positive stories or advice. I wouldn't be going on these for Life, but I'm thinking a double approach of taking them and talking to a therapist. I just feel really hopeless at the moment.

I was on Paxil for a year. It was fantastic for my depression and anxiety. It also has very mild side effects (I had none).

Don't take Effexor.

I can't really give you much advice about this, as I'm only on anti-anxiety medication.

Incidentally though, if you're preferring a more natural route some people have found that a low carb diet (keto) has lowered their stress and depression. It is not a cure, it tends to be circumstantial because not all depression is created alike. But a lot of it can be caused by being unhealthy, so it's an option to look into if you want to experiment.
