What do you use to make your secrets?

Photoshop? GIMP? Paint? Something else?

I used to have photoshop on my computer but lost it when I got a new pc. now I'm trying to get by on GIMP, because I can't actually afford to buy photoshop (the old version I had isn't sold anymore I think, and possibly not compatible with Windows 10). But now I have no idea how to make pretty secrets. GIMP doesn't even have a convenient way to outline text, it just feels so awkward compared with Photoshop.

Go to pixlr express (a free image editing website). No downloads required. Google it; it's easy to use and works well. You're welcome! ;)

Definitely gimp. I just have to unzip the eyeholes in his mask for him to make the secrets for me.

Paint but I also don't care about making pretty secrets

Mix of Paint and GIMP, since I'm too cheap to afford a "good" program.

I actually use Paint most of the time, though I've started using DrawPad (it's free and kinda like PhotoShop Lite. Very VERY Lite. But it at least has layers!)

GIMP

It does, but I haven't done it in forever so I forget what it is.

ayrt

From what I remember, Photoshop, you can just Stroke text, and you can still edit it freely once you do.

In GIMP, the only way I know how is to select path, create a new layer, copy from path, then Grow (since it's a copy of the text shape, now you have to make it bigger to make it an "outline"), then Fill it with black or whatever, then move the layer behind the text layer so it is effectively an outline. Once you do this, you can't edit the existing text or morph it at all. It's a pain in the ass, but if there is an easier way, I'd love to learn. I feel like every time I google it, and this is the top suggestion though.

Huh, I swear there was a way there you just selected the text using the choose colour tool, add an outline and then fill in the outline. Like I said, I haven't done that since I used to make icons years ago, plus GIMP has updated since then.

I wish I could find the tutorials I used to use...

OP said convenient.

GIMP has a method, but convenient it ain't.

I don't use it for secrets, but Canva [sic] is a nice free tool that will certainly let you combine images and text into an attractive final result.

I think when I first started posting secrets here, I was using an old copy of Paint Shop Pro. I would also use the copy of Photoshop I had access to at work. Now I use GIMP, since my new job won't spring for Photoshop and so Gimp is what I have to use even for the occasional work thing where I need photo editing capabilities. I've gotten used to GIMP and while there are definitely things about it that annoy and frustrate me, I think it works pretty well for my purposes. There's usually a way to do most things, but you have to go look up tutorials online first. It's not always intuitive or done the same way as in Photoshop.
