Most Jim Henson puppetry has aged spectacularly imo, though I suppose its hard for puppetry to age badly?

The graphics on Reboot are ridiculous at this point (as are the concepts of how a computer works, but that was ridiculous at the time so...), but it will always hold a place in my heart.

I wonder if kids today would even get any of the jokes.

Daria has aged surprisingly well considering how 90s it still is in some ways.

Slightly OT, but I'd always suspected that was Katie Holmes in your icon, and as I'm in the midst of watching Dawson's Creek for the first time, I actually just that episode recently. I love that sweater and her hair. She looks great. So uh, great icon choice. :)

Aw, yay! This is the first time anyone's mentioned my icon after having it for all of these years :,) this makes me happy to see someone who appreciates it! I watched DC for the first time in 2012 and I enjoyed it with all of its cheesiness <3 I hope you are too :3

Wizard of Oz has aged incredibly well, considering it was made in 1939!!

Jurassic Park has aged fantastically.

The Terminator has aged horribly (visually).

I think a lot of the movies that used puppets or animatronics tend to age much better than greenscreen monstrosities. Jurassic Park being an amazing example.

Agreed. Some of the CGI does look a bit dated but the rest of it being animatronic means that it ages really, really well. The same goes for the Labyrinth, the goblins still look great because they're real whereas some of the other CGI is a liiiiitle bad(the soap bubble floating crystals for one).

The worst part of the Labyrinth are is the Firey dance scene. Such terrible CGI!

Married With Children has not aged well. I still enjoy it, but it's very much a product of its time. I think quite a few Disney movies have aged well.

FMA 03 and Chrono Crusade-the-anime. It's particularly jarring since they premiered the same season; Chrono feels super old, and FMA does not.

FMA 03 has aged supremely well, I'd barely even notice it in some places.

And because of your icon, I'd say that TB has aged quite well in terms of story. The earlier volumes can seem a bit dated in art style, but I think 5/6/7 still hold up perfectly.

Fritz Lang's M (1931), which you can watch in full on Youtube. It's been a few years since I've seen it, but I remember being struck by how much of the psychology of the predator and the attitudes of the people in the trial scene at the end were so much like what we would hear today. That's not often true of old movies that deal explicitly with psychology/mental illness/"deviant" behavior like pedophilia [ cf. the (otherwise great) movie, The Snake Pit (1947)].

One movie that has not aged well is Sneakers (1992) -- it's got an amazing cast and a fun group of characters, but the plot and the dramatic tension hinges on technology which is (obviously) very out of date, so those scenes are just funny now.

I was actually surprised by how well mental illness was handled in The Snake Pit. Though really what caught my attention was that there was no miracle cure that solved everything, and that doesn't preclude other issues.

M is one of my favorite movies. Peter Lorre is superb in it.

I guess I know I'll do tonight, then. And I'd like to chime in that Metropolis, even though it's so VISIBLY OLD, remains one of my favourite films to this day.

Alien is just about timeless.

Re: What media do you think has aged REALLY well?

If by timeless you mean so godawful boring it feels like it will never end.

I agree. I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago and the only moment where it felt dated to me was the AI reveal.

When it comes to special effects movies, I think those that have aged well were ones where they either spend a lot of money, or ones that involved a lot of innovation. Either way, ones that involved a lot of effort. Basically, special effects and production design that is carefully and thoughtfully crafted will age well, even if it isn't as flashy or realistic as later productions, but shitty work will look like shit very fast.

Metropolis has some very impressive visuals.

Forbidden Planet is 60 years old and it looks *gorgeous* but it was also the most expensive scifi movie ever made at the time. I remember thinking the lighting in the scene where the ship lands was beautifully done, and later found out they actually filmed their big model outdoors in natural sunlight for that scene and I really appreciate the results.

2001: A Space Odyssey. I find the movie pretty boring and it has not aged well in terms of a vision of the future, but it looks nice?

I think the original Star Wars Trilogy looks great pre-Special Edition. I think the added CGI looks worse and more dated than the original effects.

I've always loved Tron, but learning about how much work it took to achieve the movie's look as actually made me appreciate it even more. It was the kind of thing modern FX technology could make short work of, but at the time it involved a lot of tedious cell animation. Also, like Forbidden Planet and 2001, Tron has a *style* and I think that makes it age better than films that couldn't commit to a bold, unique look.

Jurassic Park. I saw this when it was re-released in 3D not long ago and I thought it still looked flawless.
