I don't get why icon makers get so much virtual oral sex for cropping pictures down to 100x100 and adding some text anyway. It's not even their work to take credit for.

And according to the USA law, it's their work from the moment they finish and/or post it.

Actually, it's not theirs just because they made it. If any images are used that they did not make themselves or that are fanwork, the icon falls into the same realm as fanfiction. Any derivative work is legally the province of the creator of the original work. (Parodies and criticism fall into their own little subcategory, but I think we can all agree that we're not doing a whole lot of criticism or parody in icons, and that's a whole other can of worms all on its own.)

Okay, even as a popular icon maker....no. The only reason I ask people not to credit me for my work is because it isn't mine. I do enjoy making icons, though.

And no 'USA law' makes an icon fall under the maker's copyright if it's a derivative work, aka made from someone else's pre-existing copyrighted images. Jesus.

I DON'T GET IT EITHER. I make icons and people shit themselves over them. Now I just keep making them to keep them happy and I have over 300 people watching my icon community. It's not the fault of the icon makers that people fawn over them, haha.
