True Fandom lol. I like the show for what it is, I don't make someone who's barely even a recurring character into a main part when they're entirely coincidentally a white male, over a bunch of really awesome COC and women. not that I'm saying SGA's great on that front, but at least the show makes some kind of effort.

Even still, I see your point but... I hate to point out the obvious, but variety is the spice of life, as well. Where some people write Teyla fic, others write Lorne, and so on and so forth. I think if you'd mentioned this part you'd have gotten a lot fewer WTFs in your direction. I feel you on this, I really do--I think Teal'c really got the short end of the fandom stick big time. Yet, really? 'That kind of fanbrat?' Bye bye credibility.
Though who needs credibility on a poorly worded anonymous secret on F!S, amirite?

(Anonymous) 2008-05-09 03:27 am (UTC)(link)Teyla gets a lot of fic time, actually, and so does Ronon. Ford disappeared after two episodes in season two, and I think writers deserve some slack for not wanting to write oodles of stories set in season one three seasons later.
I like Lorne. I've written two fics that have him as a main character (both of them have Aiden in a cameo, funnily enough). I've also written fic that has Aiden as a main character. I love Teyla, and I love writing scenes with her, but I haven't written her as a main character yet. So sue me.
I have a hard time writing Ronon. You can sue me for that, too.
I also think that what you have to keep in mind is that fandom is for fun. It's not for agendas, or political action, or even to help make the world a better place. It's for fun. Why the hell can't authors write about Lorne? And hey, I've read entire stories--good ones--written about Kavanagh, or Chuck the Gate technician. Why can't people write about them, either?
If you think that Ronon and Teyla are getting short shrift, you're reading the wrong posts or archives. If you think than there aren't enough non-whites on SGA (or SG-1 or on the Sci-Fi channel shows in general), then I agree with you. But making pissy, inflammatory and confusing secret posts isn't the way to bring hearts to your cause.
And I don't write bad fic. Not even about Lorne.
