(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 02:54 am (UTC)(link)They just don't care because to them this is just another gay story aimed at women. They do care about things like Otouto no Otto, though, because as a gay manga written by a gay author AND published in a mainstream magazine, it's relevant to their interest. YOI, on the other hand? Just the latest fujoshi flavor of the month.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 04:01 am (UTC)(link)You, on the other hand, are claiming that there are lots of gay men praising the show, so providing links shouldn't be that difficult. I already asked last time btw but you didn't deliver, I'm still waiting. If my google skils failed me and those links exists, I'd love to see them. Not even being ironical here, I want to see them.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 02:58 am (UTC)(link)I am gay and lived in Japan for half a decade, go ahead and enlighten me about all the ~cultural context~ and Japanese-exclusive LGBT issues present in the show's narrative that mere Westerners could never understand to the point where their opinions on the portrayal cease to matter. Especially considering most of the show doesn't take place in Japan and most of the cast is not Japanese, but that's not even the point.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 03:42 am (UTC)(link)The only people seeing it as something else is the people actively trying to see nothing but fanservice in their relationship, and honestly, dismissing everything between them takes far more effort than seeing what is there.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 09:37 am (UTC)(link)The one without a clue about the cultural context here is you considering all you whine about is "its too ambiguous" when the main reason for that ambiguity is the cultural context of Japanese LGBT issues (which is: as much as fujo bait shows are popular with a certain demographic, actual gay representation in mainstream media is something a lot of studios shy away from).

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)They complain that isn't really LGBT, and that people saying a kind world like that (where gay couples aren't denied) is good are missing the point because it makes it more like BL than actual LGBT fiction, because LGBT should include doubts and difficulties.
They also mention not being able to understand fujoshis and complain about same-sex love not being really admitted, so people shouldn't use LGBT when talking about the show.
And in the few (VERY FEW) comments, not everyone agrees with the poster. There's even one person asking what is wrong with that kind of "kind world."
So in short: nothing new, just the usual hype backslash mixed with not being the "right kind of representation." It's surprisingly tumblr-like, but it isn't gathering much support.

“No matter how you look at it…this show is depicting a ‘gay world’. But there was absolutely NO allusion to that at all. So you’ve got Yuuri and Victor, and at no point do they look at each other and go, 'Wait, we’re both guys!’ […] The way that, in their world, men falling in love with men is totally normal and no big deal is something that’s been built up [thanks to the precedent of other fictional works in our world] over the past twenty years.”
Says Yamada Reiji, a Japanese man while talking about Yuri on Ice with other men who also agreed with him.
Nothing remarkable, just doing something different from other anime/manga, sure.
