Also for fuck's sake, you'd think if anyone has a right to have an opinion about the show, it's actual gay Olympic skaters. but lol okay discount his opinion, for ~reasons~ I guess

Regarding the sports, yes. Regarding the Victor/Yuuri relationship, he's just another Western fan who has no idea of the cultural context surrounding this show or Japanese LGBT issues.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
What the fuck lol

I am gay and lived in Japan for half a decade, go ahead and enlighten me about all the ~cultural context~ and Japanese-exclusive LGBT issues present in the show's narrative that mere Westerners could never understand to the point where their opinions on the portrayal cease to matter. Especially considering most of the show doesn't take place in Japan and most of the cast is not Japanese, but that's not even the point.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Let's totally pretend that homophobia in Japan an Western countries are totally the same.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
A "western fan" who doesn't watch anime and isn't familiar with its tropes, yet can see the love story without having it explicitly spelled out for him.

The only people seeing it as something else is the people actively trying to see nothing but fanservice in their relationship, and honestly, dismissing everything between them takes far more effort than seeing what is there.

A guy who doesn't watch anime and think gay characters on animu are so progressive because he has no idea those characters are just fapping material to women. No one told the poor guy about BL and fujoshi pandering.

Let's show him the Himegoto anime next, such a great trans representation anime.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, so something can't be BL and a good romance story involving two men? Wow, then never mind.

Please go back to tumblr to wank about the right kind of representation and other bs.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You are the one who should go back to Tumblr with your fellow fujoshi, you guys love media that fetishizes gay men and treat them like masturbation fodder.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering if you were genuine or a troll, now I know you're just the average SJW who uses straw man for everything.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy moly, this can't be real. You're complaining about a straw after posting one yourself two post above. For god's sake. You're cute so I'll give you points for trying.

Oh, and still waiting for those links, darling.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-21 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Me again. Forget about the links, I'm not gonna waste more time here. But keep them on a file. Next time you throw a tantrum at people saying mean things about your precious ship (and we all know it's just a matter of time), I'll ask you again.. I hope next time you can provide those links and prove that Japanese gay men think YOI is the greatest thing since sliced bread and so groundbreaking and that you're not talking out of your ass. See you next time.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-21 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Says the only one here throwing a tantrum.

I'm just rolling my eyes and being unsurprised that you answer all arguments with buzzwords while ignoring the one link someone was patient enough to dig for you (that's from someone who knows what he's talking about in the overall context instead of a using his feelings as facts!).

Keep being angry at YOI not being good enough/too ambiguous/fanservice-y if that's what makes you happy :)

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
DA
The one without a clue about the cultural context here is you considering all you whine about is "its too ambiguous" when the main reason for that ambiguity is the cultural context of Japanese LGBT issues (which is: as much as fujo bait shows are popular with a certain demographic, actual gay representation in mainstream media is something a lot of studios shy away from).

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The main reason for that ambiguity was to tease the fujoshi audience, period.. No6 had onscreen kisses, Evangelion had a love confession 22 years ago. Stop making excuse for the show

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
So, which is it? Fetishization of gay men or teasing ambiguity? It can't be both.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-20 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it can. That's what fujobait anime does.

(Anonymous) 2017-02-21 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Except if it's teasing bait then it isn't really gay, duh.
