Morning Routines

When do you wake up? What all do you do in the morning? What is the worst part of your morning?

The worst part of my morning is getting out of bed. Followed closely by actually having to go to work.

Depending on my schedule that day, I get up at either 5:30am or 6:30am, then walk the dog for minimum 30minutes but aim for a full hour. Feed dog and start the coffee. Shower if needed. Make coffee (lots of ice, some creamer, coffee), take meds. Possibly make breakfast, unless I'm feeling lazy or run out of time, then drive off to work.

Gold star for you, man.

I set my alarm for 6am, snooze it until 6:51am, get up at 7am, shower, dress, feed the cats, make the bed, and then leave at 7:17am to walk to work.

Every morning I tell myself I'm going to get up when my alarm goes off and be productive (make breakfast) before I leave, but I never do.

Well, to be honest it's a 50/50 chance of hitting snooze and sacrificing breakfast for more sleep. But the rolling out of bed and walking the dog is a must. I have a very high energy dog that goes a little crazy if she doesn't get the minimum of two good walks a day (and off-leash hiking on the weekends).

Jealous of your walking to work!

Haha, yeah, on top of being a little scared of most dogs, they're waaaaay too high maintenance for me.

Yeah, moving closer to work has been a godsend. The rent is waaaay higher here but I only need to put gas in my car every couple of months on average and it's free exercise.

I wake up around 5:30 or 6 (no alarm, I just wake up then) and have breakfast. Then I take a nap. Changing out of my pajamas and getting dressed is always the last thing I do.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, you take a nap after waking up?

Yup. Chronic fatigue. I take a lot of naps. Plus I feel better waking up after a nap during the day than after a night's sleep, so it's sort of like a second chance at waking up that I know will go better. I don't know why I'm like that though.

I can wake up at any time of the day. For instance, I woke up around midnight last night, it is currently going on midday and I could be awake for perhaps another couple of hours yet.

The only sure thing in my pattern is that at the latest I will get up at 10-11AM on Friday. If my sleep pattern allows, I will head out for the shopping earlier, but if I'm running late, I just want to be out by midday.

I have no idea what that means, but if you're asking how I get an income, I'm on a disability pension.

ETA: I googled it, seems to apply as I gave up on education probably about ten years ago now, though I don't consider myself "young" anymore, though I'm not "old" either, I'm "middle-aged".

I usually get up between 7-7:30. I'm on the internet until 8:30 then I get my dog up (she sleeps in her crate until then), then it's news/internet for another hour and I feed my dog breakfast and have some myself at 9:30, then at 10 I get a shower and dress if it's not a workout day, or do my workout if it is. I try to work out for at least 35 minutes 3-6 times a week. After working out I shower and dress, and have lunch at noon. After that I begin my day (errands, chores, work, etc.).

If your work day doesn't start until 11 what time does it end? I like your extended morning routine, it sounds relaxing.

Seconding the curiosity about how you fit this amazing morning routine around work.

Re: Morning Routines

(Anonymous) 2017-03-01 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wake up at 5am. Shower, have breakfast, check my email, make sure I have everything I need for the workday. Hike to the bus stop and commence hour and a half commute to work. Maybe catch a bit of a nap on the bus if I'm lucky. Walk from bus stop to work, usually stopping on the way to grab a cup of coffee.

The commute's easily the worst part of my morning, but the rent skyrockets if I want to move much closer to work than I am now, and I really, really don't want to deal with roommates again.

I wake around 5.30 - 6.30 am, and stay in bed until 7, so as not to have wake-up-time creep.

The worst part of the morning is the few moments as I surface. Absolute black despair. This even happens during the day after naps. I asked my counsellor about it and she said it was due to cortisol, the stress hormone, which is what wakes you up in the first place. I just get too big a dose of that stress hormone. I grit my teeth through it, tell myself "it's just the cortisol" and try and do something to take my mind off it.

Thanks for mentioning this! It basically confirms something I've long suspected about how I feel waking up. Absolute black despair covers it really well. For me it lasts for about an hour, with the first 30 minutes being the most intense. I actually feel like it's a significant part of why I'm on disability; it's just a hellish thing to go through at the start of every day.

If the spouse has work, wake up at 4am and drive him to work, return home, sleep another few hours and then wake up, tea and poking the internet for a bit while I wake up for real. Run errands, pick him up from work.

If the spouse does not have work I sleep in until whenever, usually 8-10ish (I need a lot of sleep) then tea and computer poking until I am alert.

Ideal: alarm goes off at 6:45, wake up at 7ish, do a 1/2 hour HIIT workout with boyf. Then it's a quick shower, clothes, make toast for me and boyf. Get packed lunches out of fridge, prepare snacks. Usually he makes me a coffee, so after this i get a nice 15 minute bit of calm to drink my coffee and have breakfast.

This last month: the above minus the exercise, calm and pre-packed lunches :(

Good morning. Woke up after 3 today because I knew I wanted to get a run in. But there was a big storm heading my way so I thought it was best to nix that. I didn't want to go the gym (open 24 hours) since it would involve me going out, getting wet, run on a treadmill, leave, get wet, go home and shower and get ready for work. So instead I bounced on a ball and watched part of the movie "Captain Fantastic". I'll finish the rest of the movie later.

But typically I do get up around 3:30. I'll either do cardio, strength training, or rarely try to stay in bed till after 4:30. Some times I'll go to the grocery store. I love being able to shop when it's mostly empty!

Worst part? I want to sleep in but I know I need to get up and moving!

Wake up at 8am, spend 15-20 minutes throwing on clothes, grabbing a lunch and breakfast to bring to work, brush my hair, and run out the door to my carpool. I'm always up until midnight for one reason or another, and I don't do well with less than 8 hours sleep even if I'm waking up all night long, so I try to squeeze out every last second of it I can get.

Sadly I'm about to get even less of it as I'll be going back to bus rides soon. Adds an hour to my commute. :(
