What thing have you been disappointed with/lost interest in because they weren't what you expected, or what you thought they were?

City: Skylines. I was hoping for Simcity but it was just too complicated and time consuming to interest me.

I read Twilight fully expecting it to be like Harry Potter, which had just ended as a series at that point. I minded a lot of things about Twilight, but I think the fact that it was a love story and not a more Harry Potter-like story of friendship and loyalty and good versus evil drove my initial frustration.

Certain RPers--

It's like we have so much fun planning, and then once the actual RP happens, it's like... I thought that they'd be different or they post things from my characters view point (or make them do things in a scene when I didn't give that person permission to move them around willy nilly)

That's probably a stupid thing to be disappointed by though--

That's one of the reasons why I stopped RPing, to be honest! I just got so frustrated about those things. It was also hard when I'd realize that we all had very different visions.

Yeah, it's like I wanted an RPer that meshed well with me-- but I could never find one, either someone played otherwise masculine characters as extremely girly, or they moved my characters around, or they said something OOC that really turned me off of the RP-- (i.e I found out that they disliked a character I liked)--

Part of the blame is probably myself-- for having unrealistic expectations of people (and expectations is the killer of enjoyment)

But yeah, definitely why I don't RP anymore-- I commiserate with you, I really do!

Guild Wars 2. Sort of from the start, but particularly after the big change they made.

I hated oatmeal raisin cookies for a long time because so often I'd buy/eat them thinking they were chocolate chip.

Ironically, I now like them better than chocolate chip cookies.

The fancy, upscale hotel I'm staying in right now. Was super excited (we got a good rate, it was really near where I'm taking my course). But this is the tiniest hotel room I've ever been in. Seriously. And the bed isn't that comfortable. And there is no cell phone service here on the 10th floor.

Inspired by the Criminal Minds secret yesterday, I always lose interest in a show when it becomes less about the genre and more about the character drama.

To be honest, I'm actually probably the most fond of watching shows with no characters at all or very few, like How It's Made, Sex Sent Me To The ER, Mystery Diagnosis, Cutthroat Kitchen, etc. I prefer characters in a written format instead of video.

In a real life example, once as a kid when travelling abroad we were looking for a place to eat. We saw a restaurant with a French name, and French outside signage. Armed with a high school level of French that was sure to get past a language barrier enough to get the family food, my parents headed in. Note, this somewhere where French was spoken but not the most common language.

It was a Chinese restaurant.

All the menus were were written in Chinese. Everyone working there was Chinese and spoke only (I'm assuming) Mandarin. High School French classes had not prepared my parents for this challenge.
