... but those names aren't gender neutral? I always thought parents who do that mean names like Parker, Robin, McKenzie, Devon, etc.

Yes! Robin, Rene, Andrea etc. fine, those could be called 'gender neutral'. I personally wouldn't, but whatever.

But in those conversations James is always example number one, followed by a plethora of obviously masculine names for daughters.

... or as I like to think of them, names for super white people. A co-worker of mine named her daughter Madison and I had to bite my tongue over just how suburban white parent that sounded.

LOL. Sounds like a surname, check. Sounds like a boy's name, check. Sounds like incompetent social climbing, check.

Sounds more like a mermaid to me.

Madison is a really common name though. I know at least three female Madisons (Maddison) and no male Madisons, including a good friend of mine who is nearly thirty. Nickname Maddie. That doesn't sound yuppie at all to me.

It was a very rare first name until the movie Splash came out. Now it's really common.

"Maddie" was pretty common, as a nickname for Madeleine, Madonna, or some other name.

Not sure why you think being common means it can't be yuppie. SUVs are common. McMansions are common. Abercrombie and Fitch is common. Etc.
