I don't think that's how language works. Compound words exist and are not insults just because they exist. A fireman is still a man, a waitperson is still a person, a thunderstorm is still a storm, a watermelon is a melon. Yes, these words differentiate, but they can be just further clarification out of a general category.

As a 'trans' as you put it, I really hate being condescended to and treated like I'm too stupid to figure out if someone's being nasty or not because of something so complicated as compound words.

And the English language usually writing compound words as two separate words is causing MAJOR problems in several Scandinavian languages because compound words are always written as one word here and people are having HUGE difficulties remembering to do that because of all the English they are exposed to.

Just to point out a different problem!
