(Anonymous) 2017-03-12 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)i think it depends a little on what exactly you want out of the bibliophile side of tumblr. if it's a passive thing for you, then yeah, obviously op just sounds bitter and like they can't handle other people having fun.
however, and that's something i've personally noticed in quite a few tumblr pseudo-communities (other examples would be langblr and studyblr), if you want to be an active member of the community who actually connects to and makes friends with the people in it, whether or not you're adhering to a certain aesthetic/attitude can matter to a really weird degree, much, much more than it would in real life. it's not like you absolutely won't make friends or like no one is ever going to look at your posts, but it's statistically a lot more unlikely (and a lot harder) than if you also sit there yelling about tea, the $$$ you spend on new books, and decorate your shelves with pop figurines. which, yeah, can make you feel excluded and bitter in a 'community' that advertises itself as being 'for people who enjoy the same thing you do'.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-13 03:05 am (UTC)(link)Person A: I watch the occasional football game but I hate it when people talk about The Big Game, wear team merchandise and throw Superbowl/tailgate parties.
Persons B-G: We love football and talking about The Big Game! We love throwing Superbowl parties, swearing team merch and tailgating, pass the hot wings woooooooo!
Person A: Look at those assholes, being all elitist and excluding me from being a member of the Football Loving Community.
I mean... what? It just feels like Person A is looking for reasons to be mad.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-13 06:36 am (UTC)(link)a: i'm a football fan, but i don't like watching the big game with people
b: but to be a football fan, you have to love that! you can't be a real football fan if you don't! in fact, we're going to regurgitate time and time again how you can only be a real football fan if you watch the game with people.
tumblr: you wanna talk about football? here are 50 blogs of people who think exactly like person b.
a: hot dang not fitting in is annoying, let's make a secret about it.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-13 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)I can understand getting annoyed at tumblr for their suggestions, but it still doesn't make sense to be so bitter about it. It's not done to spite OP, but OP is determined to act like this is a personal insult and it's kind of weird.
