Power Rangers

Just got back, and I loved it! Though I'll be supremely disappointed if it doesn't spawn KimberlyTrini and JasonZack (or JasonBilly, or JasonBillyZack) fic.

Ugh. That the first thing you think of is how to export it for more shipping is just depressing and a sign of all that is wrong with fandom these days. Also, ugh, that you liked that pile of pretentious crap.

Bad day?

It is always a bad day when someone starts with the shipping instead of the genficcing.

Waaah, someone doesn't enjoy fandom the same way I enjoy fandom.

Get off your holier than thou high horse.

As someone with an unnatural love of gen fic, nah.

Oh, go away. Shipping is an enjoyable hobby that people like to do and I really don't see what's so awful about wanting to engage in it. Be off with you.

If you didn't like the movie, why do you care what kind of fandom it would spawn, lol

Re: Power Rangers

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The Power Rangers fandom is more than just one movie.

Re: Power Rangers

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I'm sure that fandom was just so active and happenin'.

It's astonishing how many people seem to like it.

I'm still not going to see it, bc the idea of spending any time watching anything Power Rangers related fills me with anger, but it's nice that it's a good movie apparently

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, really? Why? It was such a huge part of my tweenhood that I admit I went to see it for nostalgia, but I really did enjoy it.

Re: Power Rangers

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It was so popular when I was a kid that it became kinda omni-present and I started to hate it. In a very specific childhood way, as well - the way where it's sort of impossible to actually stop paying attention to it or make it go away and you just want to beat your head against the wall out of exhaustion. It makes me feel the same way I feel remember being trapped in some kind of a hot, stuffy room visiting a great-grandmother or something. Very specific kind of childhood thing I can't stand.

I heard it was mediocre, but I haven't seen it to judge for myself.

What would you say it did well?

Re: Power Rangers

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It just seemed to stay true to the focus of the original rangers, which was very much Friendship! and Believe in yourself!

I enjoyed all the action stuff as well, but I just genuinely liked all of the characters. They seemed very well developed as individuals and not copies of the original rangers even if they are technically copies.

Were they different characters in the movie? Personality wise? Compared to the old TV show, I mean.

I'm still in two minds on if I want to go see it, like the original series is not good(it's a cheesy mess and I love it) and I'm just a little worried that maybe the reboot might take itself a little too seriously?

Although if they make that work then frankly I won't mind. Idk, I think the main thing I want to know: is it fun?

Re: Power Rangers

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely fun! I mean, there are serious parts, but I didn't really get the impression it was trying to take itself too seriously, you know? I mean, there is some level of seriousness afforded to, "Oh my god, we need to protect the earth!" but it didn't really go overboard with that, and there was still a good deal of the goofiness from the original, just slightly less cheese.

Hmmm, sounds like it could be up my alley. I mean I'm not overly attached to the original by any means so I'm not against it on principle or anything, I was just a little worried from the trailers that this was a Dark and Gritty rboot, but if it's still got moments of goofyness in it that's a plus for me.

I don't really want to watch it because I'm just too fond of the trashy "let's sell these plastic toys" spirit of the original shows (mostly the Japanese ones) but I'm still kind of curious about it...
