Complaints!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-25 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)This isn't the first time this has happened, either. On several occasions, I found the things I was looking for (and which she swore up and down were not anywhere to be found) after just a glance around the room. So she's either blind or didn't even look for them.
So instead of asking her again, I think I'll just wait until she's out of the room next time I visit her and look for the damn thing, find it and just take it with me without telling her. It's not worth the hassle.

Here's a typical example:
A few years back, I was living with my dad, and we had recently adopted two cats: one adult and one kitten (Tobias). I had the opportunity to travel to a three-day conference for work in a city which was a six-hour drive away. The morning I left, we couldn't find Tobias in the house. I looked everywhere I could before I absolutely had to leave, no dice, and as I was leaving, I asked my dad to check outside around the house in case Tobias had escaped out an open door. My dad said, "I know that didn't happen," and that was it as far as he was concerned. He wouldn't budge.
The entire time I was at the conference, he kept texting and calling to update me on the fact that Tobias was still missing, and I kept saying, "Please, check outside! He could have gotten out!" My dad kept insisting that was impossible, and instead said things like, "He probably got stuck somewhere in the house and died. The other cat keeps looking for him and meowing, but I tell him, 'You'll have to get used to it. He's not coming back.'" I was so angry and frustrated with him, I can't even tell you.
I had to stay at the conference for two days because I was presenting twice, but the minute my second session was over, I got my things, checked out of the hotel, and sped all the way home because god-fucking-dammit, my kitten is most definitely outside in the cold and will starve to death soon if he hasn't died already. I walk through the door, and my dad is standing in the kitchen with Tobias in his arms. "Guess who showed up on the back porch just a few minutes ago?" he says with a grin. "I think he must have gotten out of the house when I opened the garage in the morning right before you left." Then he just chuckles while I flip out on him for not believing me or listening to me.
It's hard not to hate people who are like this.
(Here is Tobias now as I type.)

Re: Complaints!
1) One of my cats is driving me bananas with his neediness. I've been home all day working on my laptop and he's snuggled with me for hours, I've played with him a half-dozen times, I've fed him, given him treats in his puzzle box, and pet him continuously, but the moment I get up and leave his sight, he's following me around and whining for attention. He makes this loud "hnnnnggg??" sound that's the exact cadence of a child whining, "Can I? Can I? Can I?" and it is driving me insane. (Well, now he's lying next to me and napping so I have some relief. )
2) AO3's "My Subscription" page.
Sayyyy, could we maybe have some info on whatever the hell each of these fics are? At the very least, a "date subscribed"? Or a "last updated"? Or something signaling to me whether I want to unsubscribe or not without having to click on every single link there? That kind of crazy-making tedium is what I do for my job at work ; I'll be damned if I do it on my off-hours, too.
Re: Complaints!
(Anonymous) 2017-03-26 04:07 am (UTC)(link)But I can't find my passport. The last time I couldn't find it, I kept it in a desk drawer that I shoved my school notebook into one day, and when I took my notebook with me to class, the passport fell out. Campus police called me to come pick it up. That was maybe a year ago. And now I'm afraid I did the same fucking thing except this time no one found it. I live in a fairly large city, but even if I go to the passport office first thing on Monday with a photo and money in hand, I doubt very much I'd be able to get even a passport card before Tuesday.
That's like diplomatic emergency level shit, not "dammit the actor I've crushed on for years is leaving a shitshow of a show and moving back to his home country which happens to be thousands of miles away and if I go there just to get his autograph I'll graduate from set-stalker to stalker." And also I'm kind of bummed that the show is probably getting renewed because if the show was cancelled, his character might get to ride happily into the sunset or whatever. The odds of horrible depressing death go way up with renewal. I need a new fandom, one whose source material I can actually bear to watch.
