Seems like Tolkien fandom stepped up big this week. Who's going to do it next week and make a million secrets?

Lol, I hope for more Tolkien. I don't know what caused it to explode, but I'll be happy if it never goes away.

It was one person sick and bored last Friday/Saturday. Could happen again this weekend, we'll see.

I understand almost none of them because I haven't read The Silmarillion but I'm still cheering you on, Tolkien fandom!

I feel like shipping in The Silmarillion is particularly dirty for some reason. I kinda like it.

Why dirty? (just curious)

Because Tolkien himself was particularly prim and proper about sex in his fiction, and his Elves are somewhat idealized early 20th century Catholics in that regard.

Honestly that's part of what makes it fun for me? This quasi-medieval setting but then imagining all sorts of kinky sex things behind closed doors (or not so closed). It just works for me really well.

True, although on that point, Tolkien's quasi-medieval setting is even more chaste than a large number of the actually medieval sources he emulates.

Very true. Which, in my mind, makes for even more room to explore. Because so much of Tolkien is in broad strokes and so much is left to the imagination. And some of the empty spaces can be filled with sex.

"Word of God" is quite definitive about how Elven sexuality is off-the-page. And it warms my heart to see that at least one small corner of the universe, "Word of God" is recognized as the regressive bullshit it is.

Well, my corner of the fandom ships dark lords, so we're already just fine with doing our own thing. Plus, "Word of God" in Tolkien is questionable considering how many different versions he wrote, re-wrote, edited, and wrote again. It is fairly easy to pick and choose which versions you want to be canon for yourself.

I wonder if anyone is out there shipping stuff from Blake or whatever

It's made my week to see so many Tolkien secrets. I haven't had anyone to talk to about Tolkien for quite some time.

I want it to be the fandom for some really obscure thing no one's heard of.
