Can people stop referring to Theon's abuse as "manpain"? The guy has been literally tortured and suffered genital mutilation. Would you be referring to the shit he goes through with such a derogatory handwave term if he had been female, OP?

Seriously. I swear some people are so low on empathy.

I mean yeah they should have focused more sympathy on the character actually being raped. but Theon is just as much a victim as his abuser's female victims.

I mean I hate it when neckbeards go "but what about the MEN?! m-muh double standards!!" whenever anyone brings up how particularly awful GOT is towards women, but the fandom's treatment of Theon (from both male/female fans) just rubs me the wrong way. Between making fun of his genital mutilation, saying he deserves it, acting like he hasn't actually suffered, or writing off his abuse as manpain, it's all just really gross.

Except the secret says nothing about how Theon's abuse is "manpain". It's specifically referring to Theon's anguish while Sansa is being raped as "manpain". You could argue that isn't a good definition either, but at least this doesn't misidentify what you're objecting to.

Theon is a fucking victim of Ramsay, denoting anything to do with Theon in this context as "manpain" is horrendous and also incorrect considering manpain implies the male in question has not undergone any actual pain. It absolutely does misidentify it and the fact that you're arguing about this shows a lack of critical thought on your part. Imagine if you were this blase about a female character who had her genitals cut up.

"Manpain: When a male character's backstory related-angst breaks out, usually in isolation, brooding, douchebaggery, control or trust issues, misbehavior, crying a single tear, etc."

"When a grown man has the emotional life of an angsty teenager he is said to be experiencing manpain, especially if he tries to compensate with macho behavior."

If you think these are applicable to the character that has been starved, beaten, mutilated, forced to sleep with dogs, referred to as an "it", made to be someone's pet, had their identity stripped away, forced to be naked and bathe in front of their abuser, and had their genitals mutilated, then kindly go fuck yourself.
