I don't want to run marathons or half marathons ar even really think of myself as "a runner." I just want to know I could run if I have to and maybe do a 5k if I wanted to.

But I don't run. A 30-minute walk is a good workout for me. And I always get a little disappointed whrn I see people rec Couch to 5k with it's 1-mibute walk/1-minute run for a week and build up, because I feel like people who can do even that are starting at a base level of fitness that I'm nowhere near.

So, what I've been doing is walking the treadmill starting at 1.8 for a warmup and then gradually adding speed as I feel able. Around the 25 minute mark, I'm in the high 2s and feeling good, so especially if my music is good O'ol bump it to a 4.3 jog which feels great for about 30 seconds but once that's done, I'm frantically dropping down to the 2s for about 5 minutes then cooling down for 3 and I'm done and feeling pretty well spent.

And I'm not sure how to get better. I find the 3 mph range to just be really uncomfortable - too fast to walk, too slow to run - but I can't maintain the 4, let alone repeat it for even another 30-second cycle. Shoild I just do 10 seconds on and more often, even though once I start I just want to go?

I started boxing class last week and just went to my second one!! I've done various martial arts off and on since I was a child, even on and off through adulthood. But this is my first time doing boxing, and the first art I've taken in over a year. I'm way out of shape and my punches have never been very good, so this is different and nice. But oh man, I really feel the workout, it's so hard! Absolute rivers of sweat, so sore the next day even breathing hurts, omg.

Sort of related so I'll put it here. If you have one (or any step counter) what is your average daily?

I average 10-12k a day. Which is what I'm comfortable with at the moment. It's do-able but I really have to push some days. Getting a promotion = more sedentary life, sadly, so where 10k used to be done before I even made it home, now I have to push and walk the dog longer to really make my goals.

Lift weights.

Walk/take the stairs instead of taking your car/the elevator.

Do a cardio routine.

Cut back on sugar/fats.

Try to add some fruits and vegetables into your diet.

Keep hydrated.

Join a gym/get some advice from professionals about how to lose/maintain weight.

We got an ex-rental treadmill on the cheap this last week, and yesterday I spent 3 hours on it! :D
I plan to spend a few hours on it every day that I'm not working, since I now have a job that keep me on my feet for the whole shift.

I've been rewatching Raising Hope, which I think was underrated. Part of the problem, I think, is that it was initially advertised as a bit of a fictional version of Honey Boo Boo. A friend of mine watched the show, convinced me it was anything but, and that's when I tuned in. I also think giving the grandmother (Maw Maw) dementia was a poor choice, because I had to stop watching when my own grandmother's dementia got bad. :(

... I realize the last bit makes it sound not good, but it is. And even how the dementia is handled isn't terrible.

I think that people who say that The Wire is the best TV show ever are basically correct, but I do think that a lot of the things that people say about it are wrong - for instance, it's not actually very "novelistic", and it is very much part of a continuity of television shows. It kinda feels like no one really had the conceptual vocabulary to figure out what The Wire was actually doing so they just said it was like other stuff they liked.

The Middle. It gets drowned out by Modern Family, but I think its the superior show with generally more likeable/realer-feeling people.

I understand why it was so disliked, given the tonal shift from the previous two entries and the brouhaha over the end of SGA and the comparisons to BSG, but I really liked Stargate Universe. Admittedly, some of that may have been because I wasn't that invested in either SG-1 or SGA, so SGUs differences from the motherships didn't bother me as much, but I enjoyed a lot of what SGU did. I liked the 'permanently stranded in space' angle, with the contingent mental, physical and environmental concerns it had on the crew, and I liked that it was connected to but distanced from the standing concerns of the SG universe, with room for new encounters and threats. The execution was pretty shaky in places, and the characters are an interesting study in assholery/neuroses, but I liked it. It wasn't a bad little show, even if it is the black sheep of its family.

Piercings

I'm thinking about getting my helix pierced.

And eventually... I may consider getting my nipples pierced. But that's a big maybe.

I've gone through Reddit posts and all that (needle only/no gun ever, sanitize with salt water because rubbing alcohol can kill new cells which can disrupt the healing process, stay away from fake metals and maybe nickel, not sure if I'd have to moisturize it, but *shrugs*)

Any advice? Anything I should know? I'm in no rush to get anything pierced just yet, but I really am thinking about the helix, and maybe even another part of my ear(s).

I've never experienced a piercing. I have my earlobes pierced, but I got that done when I was 2 years old, so I don't remember a thing + they never, ever close, so they are literally 0 maintenance.

Used car advert gripe

If you are selling a used car, even if it is a 2+2 coupe or sports car, please for the love of god remember to put pictures of the back seat on the advert. Take photos with one of the front seats pulled forward in 2 doors, but the other in the upright position. The back seat and its condition is not an irrelevance. I've been wading through car adverts and they all have pictures of the engine (often multiples), front seats, truck space, and body panels (and FTR, square on front and back with bonnet and boot lid down too please), but nearly all of them forget that the back bench exists.

I'm looking at 1990s models, because I like then, and I cannot decide between a 1995 Impreza turbo, a Calibra 4X4 turbo, a VW Corrado, and the dark horse of a Volvo 480se/celebration. Try seeing what the condition is like behind the front seats though in adverts and no chance. They could be sparkling and pristine, or rotten and stripped out, there is no way to tell.

Conversely I bought a 1993 Volvo Torslanda recently too, and it had pictures galore front and back, every panel and multiple angles. I knew I was buying it even before I saw the seller (assuming it checked out, which it did and matched the photos nicely) and turned up with a trailer to haul it away there and then.

These guys who skip the rear seats of their sports cars though... It is as bad as people who sell motorboats and never put a picture in the slideshow of the toilet. Is it a sea toilet, a cassette toilet, holding tank...does it even exist at all? Nobody knows because their littlest room in the boat is the one they never mention in the advert.

Anyway, that is my car buying gripe (and boat, technically), what are yours?
