Re: What an anti actually is

Because people do use "anti" to mean "person who doesn't ship my OTP". Maybe at some point or in some fandoms it's only ever meant people who have an unholy dedication to make the lives of people who ship their NoTP miserable, but fandom being fandom, it's been diluted to the point where a lot of people who are accused of being antis are, in fact, people who just exist in their own corner, shipping their own ship and leaving their NoTP the fuck alone.

Things I have seen people hounded as antis for:

-Saying they don't ship a particular ship.
-Shipping the rival ship of a popular pairing.
-Writing a fic that handles a canon relationship breaking up in the course of establishing a non-canon ship.
-Posting something negative about a ship they didn't like in their own blog, beneath a cut, deliberately untagged, because the bright lights at Tumblr decided they were going to search content as well as tags and fandom is fucking fandom.

DA

That's still not what it means, though. Antis usually describe themselves as such (no accusations from "OTPers" required) and are proud of it, and they're the ones who do the hounding. Just because some people in your obscure corner of fandom misuse a term doesn't change what it means to everyone else. Antis as described by AYRT are a relatively recent development in fandom so I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that that definition of an anti is some watered down relic of the past.

Why am I getting horrible flashbacks of when I was reading about Humpty Dumpty saying to Alice that words could mean just about anything?

idk. i'm a pretty open anti shipper in a certain fandom but stick to the anti tags and my own blog. and i've witnessed way more shippers send antis hate than the other way around. before i remade, i had more followers and got massive amounts of anon hate. it's not my fault tumblr lumps anti stuff into the main ship tag, i tag my stuff.
