Instant breakfasts?

[personal profile] caerbannog 2017-04-24 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hey guys what's your fave kind of instant breakfasts? I'm thinking minimal prep like eating a banana or muffin or energy bar.

Asking for a friend who's not hungry in the morning and a little nauseous so can only eat a little bit and hates breakfast prep

(the friend is my stomach)

An apple or a granola bar, probably. Maybe both.

Does microwaving count as prep? Cause I like to get microwavable kolaches (texas kolaches, so basically pigs in a blanket) and heat those up in the morning. Small frozen things in general are my go to when I'm not feeling up to doing anything but popping something microwave for a few seconds.

Well, how about bananas, muffins, and energy bars? :P That sounds like my "minimal prep breakfast". Also, instant oatmeal or yogurt. Or, more realistically in my case, cold leftover pizza.

When I was younger, my mom would get me these chocolate breakfast drinks. It's just this powder you mix with milk. It tastes just like chocolate milk and would keep me full until lunch.

Honestly I have a lot of trouble with breakfast, so I stick to liquids (usually tea) for the first hour and then eat something after I've been up a while. So something like a granola bar they can eat later?

Sometimes I just sip on a coffee that has cream and some kind of spice (cinnamon or nutmeg).

Otherwise, a Greek yogurt and/or banana does the trick.

I drink a big glass of V8. It keeps me full until lunch, and it has a little bit of carbs anf protein (but no fat, so sometimes I also eat a pre-boiled egg.)

Koko crunch cereal, if I buy it.

Delicious, sugary, and you can eat it as a snack if you have to.

Sausage Cheese Balls
They are made with one tube of country pork sausage (mild or hot), 8 to 10 ounces of shredded cheddar cheese (I sometimes use the Mexican blend), and 2 cups Bisquick baking mix. Let the sausage & cheese come to room temperature. Preheat oven to 400*F. Mix everything together (easiest way is to use food safe gloves and your hands). Shape into walnut sized balls, put on an ungreased cookie sheet (the kind with a raised edge all around), and bake 10-12 minutes (until golden brown). You might want to drain them on a paper towel if they are really greasey (depending on the fat content in the sausage). I store mine in a Tupperware container in the refrigerator. I usually eat them cold, but occasionally warm them in the toaster oven or microwave.

I'd say a banana and some yogurt, both are pretty gentle on most stomachs. A lot of single serving yogurt cups have a lot of added sugar if you worry about that or if your stomach isn't up to it, but you can usually find plain ones too, or if you don't mind the sugar it probably won't kill you.

I often feel a little nauseous in the morning and I think it's *because* I'm hungry/have low blood sugar. Eating always seems to help.

Anyway, I like toast (or just bread) with peanut butter on it. Gets some protein in me! No reason you can't have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast, either. Cheese and crackers might be another good option.

not hungry in the morning and a little nauseous

Have you ever thought about just skipping breakfast? That whole "you HAVE to have breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day" thing is actually bullshit and there've been a ton of studies that show skipping breakfast can actually be good for you (google "intermittent fasting").

I haven't eaten breakfast in a really long time (as a kid I was pretty much forced to because my mom thought it was best for me, but I've pretty much never been hungry at breakfast time). It wasn't until the past couple years that I found out it's actually not an awful thing to not eat breakfast if you're not hungry.

As someone who cheerfully eats pretty much all the time if I can get away with it, skipping breakfast sounds perfectly reasonable to me, unless you won't have time to eat by the time you're actually hungry, in which case a banana or a small smoothie or something would be a good idea.
