Two actors can't carry the show by themselves.

The plot has problems.

This has caused the OP to dislike the show.

That's "WUT".

I don't care if the op dislikes the show; that's their business. But obviously the two actors can carry the show or the network wouldn't have renewed it for a fourth season.

I don't really care whether they are or aren't carrying it. The fact that the show's been renewed doesn't make the secret "WUT" worthy. What does renewal prove? That ratings are good and there's some kind of plot to come? That's good, but it doesn't mean that a cast like that is going to keep things fresh or interesting for much longer.

I'm impressed that you think my "WUT" comment was unworthy. I've always been in need of someone to clean up my random internet comments and keep things orderly. I'm MOST PLEASED you seem so willing to accept the job. I can't promise dental coverage, but you'll be treated on trips to the most exotic and far-reaching corners of LJ.

the cause of renewal isn't that the show's any good at all, it's for money. supernatural makes the network money because a bunch of brainless fangirls think the actors are hot.

if what is or is not renewed actually meant anything, how do you explain the cancellation if tv shows universally critically and fan acclaimed (arrested development), but the continuation of cheap brain-candy that either has hack writers or no writers at all, like reality shows.

.... How exactly is that the two actors NOT carrying the show, then? A big part of an actor's job is to appeal to the viewers in some way or other and make the network money. If they're both doing that successfully enough for the network, how are they not carrying the show?

I have no opinion on critically and fan acclaimed shows, canceled or otherwise. Supernatural is the only show I watch, and I'm perfectly happy admitting that the one hour per week that I spend in front of the boob tube is filled with eye-candy and often silly plots. It's my weekly escapism and that's how I prefer it. Anyone else is free to enjoy their escapism in other ways.

Although, apparently the mice seem to interpret WUT as some sort of screaming from the mountain-top in indignation, which it is not. I also never said anything about any show being good or bad. I just said that obviously the network thinks that the two actors are carrying the show. Hold onto that crown and save it for your reading for context skills.

Somehow, I am extremely unsurprised. If you just admitted the plots are ridiculous (and thus probably stupid) and the guys are eye-candy (and thus aren't really there to act) why are you so surprised by the secret? Some of us like shows where the actors may not be as attractive, but they can act and the plots don't have huge, gaping holes.

1) I did not say the plots are ridiculous nor that they are stupid. I said often silly, which is not the same thing.

I love how just because a show is unique in that it doesn't need to have fifty random characters popping up all over the place, it's automatically "unable to carry itself".

The fact that there are two brothers and that is what the story is about. Brothers holding each other together and finding happiness together, is what makes this show unique and different from the rest of the standard blah blah blah hour long dramas.

I should have clarified that it wasn't enough to carry the show for me personally. If you like it and think it's great, that's awesome! Keep supporting it. I loved the brother aspect of the show. I'm not out to ruin the show for other people -- it's just not for me, and I can't really say that without a lot of backlash. Hence the secret.
