A fanfic series I was enjoying on AO3 got deleted with no explanation. I didn't even get to finish reading it. I can't figure out how to send PMs on AO3, so I went to the author's profile, where she had her tumblr linked, so I sent an ask (not a demand, just a "why'd you delete it"), but was never answered. :( Is there any place I can go to ask the general public if anyone has a copy of it saved that they can share with me? I know places to ask "hey does anyone have a link to this fic I forgot where to find", but none for "hey does anyone have a copy of this fic that no longer exists". I'm really down about it.

Depends on the fandom. If they have a search comm, someone might have a copy.

I'm sorry you're down about it, but to me, I personally feel like I would have to respect the author's wishes if something like that happened

+1

Not to mention that if it was on AO3, OP already had a fair chance to download it.

This is why it is important to download all fics for offline reading. That way if an author goes all primmadonna you've got it backed up and can disseminate still to other fans. Keep circulating the tapes applies just as much to fanfic as it does for shows.

Primadonna?!

Shit

Authors can be as "primadonna" as the like in my opinion (not my place to judge), but the lack of download options is one of the reasons I avoid ff.net like the plague. If anyone have a good workaround, preferably some automated e-book maker), I'd love to know it.

Calibre is an e-reader organiser which has a f2f.net plugin - at least it used to, I haven't used it in a while. Iirc, it also had a built-in "check for updates"option.

I use Calibre, but wasn't aware of any plugin for fanfiction.net. How do you set it up? (Or where do I find instructions?)

Wow, thanks! I'm certainly checking this out.

I use Codex Reader on my tablet. You can download and read on the app or export as an epub.

Heaven fucking forbid they not be fanfic dispensers for you

A lot of fic search comms will let you ask that type of thing, at least the tumblr ones I've seen do. Doesn't hurt to send and ask.

Thank you for reminding me to download all my bookmarks!

(Anonymous) 2017-05-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
lol no kidding. Time to make sure I've got all my favorites.

I thought the Wayback Machine was working for AO3 again. Is it not?

(Anonymous) 2017-05-21 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't seem to be working for me, but I'm trying to look up a fic rated M.
