I didn't expect to get that into the Uncharted series myself, I only first played it when 4 was bundled with my ps4 and then I downloaded all the other games immediately after playing the 4th.

Tomorrowland. I initially only went to see it because Hugh Laurie was in it (I am not normally a big Disney fan) and I wound up really liking it.

How to deal with heat

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-05-26 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh. Summer in Texas. It was in the 90s today. The heat makes me feel run down and makes it harder to get things done. And plus, it is horrible on my oily skin, and I haven't found any products that I can afford that work for me.

So how do you deal with the heat? And are there cheep products for skin that work?

ayrt

All I remember about Rufus is that he was generally disliked and was killed on a hunting trip by "an arrow that flew from nowhere," which ties in neatly with the generally disliked thing

Seconded.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's such a good series! Completely fell in love with the protagonist, what a fun character. i love how his personal interests completely shine in he way he narrates events and investigates things :)

i still need to read the newest book in the series though, i'll admit the ultra-long wait kiiinda turned me away from the series. i want to pick it up again but i don't remember the details of what happened in the previous books all that well.

Yeah I don't mind the reapers but they make very little sense considering how many times the Doctor and his companions have fucked up time and there's been no consequence.

Though to be honest I kind of wish there were more consequences to the Doctor's actions...

You have brightened my little fangirl heart. <3

Enjoy. Make secrets if you find something you like. (And Gokaiger really is a brilliant series. If you decide you like Super Sentai, it should definitely be on the list.)

I haven't watched in years so I'm still hazy on it but I always felt like Ford in SGA had a very open ended death, like as in I didn't know he was even gone for good until I read a writer's blog.

I think the problem was they had made him so invincible that you really needed to see his death and know for sure, but the way he was killed was just "oh by the way he was on that ship that exploded."

Those poor bastards, having to make some kind of halfway dramatic series out of the lunacy that was Carranger. (No, seriously, Turbo was fun. But once I saw Carranger, I knew exactly why it had such an odd tone.)

Re: Advice thread

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
So I'm not the anon who was asking whether they should get a pet, but their thread got me wondering if I should get one. I was planning on getting a cat if I either got promoted, or graduated, and then I did both inside three months. Yay! But for anyone who's been following the saga, I'm drunk mom anon, and mom's probably headed for hospice care in the next couple weeks. :-(

She's been in a board and care since February, and she won't be coming home except for brief visits and maybe when she's dying. I'm pretty sure I have the money for a cat, since I'm making a bit extra, and my job's only half time, so I have time for a pet more involved than my old lady hens now that school's over for a bit--I'll apply to grad school next year. But I keep second-guessing myself. What if I end up using a cat as an emotional bandaid? Is that bad? I'm gonna get so much therapy with my newfound free time, but a cat seems like--I dunno--fun therapy, rather than the slog I know talking to a therapist is gonna be. I don't think I'm an awful pet owner, I've had hens live to be 16, but...

The latest Ghostbusters because I wanted more of that team.

Serenity because I wanted the 3 movie deal, I let it go a long time ago but at the time I was sad.

I LOVE the first Cap movie. I adore well-done period pieces and I really like his origin story. plus he is just so Pure and earnest in his attempts to be the "good man" who stands up for the little guys that I really enjoyed a whole movie all about him. There aren't a whole lot of stories in the modern day that feature a largely morally-uncomplicated protagonist which manage to do it well, without making it a 2D caricature. I like morally complicated characters generally speaking but tbh it gets old having to deal with Discourse and Problematic-ness and Moral Gray Areas every damn time I want a story. And morally uncomplicated characters can be just as complex and interesting as the other kind...it just takes way more skill to make it work.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it's not on the same level as losing a friend/family member, but really? Even if someone didn't know the person on a personal level, isn't it sort of natural to be upset if someone whose work meant a lot to them/got them through a difficult time passes away?

Re: Things you liked more than you expected

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hm, let me see if I can break it down:

I admit that I didn't watch much past season 2.

I liked Picard, but the rest of the cast didn't click for me. I found most of them wooden or boring. And I know it sounds cruel, but my favorite part of S1 was when Yar died, because it meant she wouldn't be back. I never for a moment bought her character. While I admired the show's willingness to put a woman in a role, she just never sold me; she always remained just an actress playing a character. Marina Sirtis was another; she was curvy eye candy, and while it was lovely eye candy, it really annoyed me that she wore a catsuit rather than, yanno, a Star Fleet uniform. Data felt like an attempt to cash in on Spockophilia. Geordie was mostly just the deliverer of eleventh hour technobabble to wrap up whatever the Malfunction of the Week was. ("Captain, what if we... REVERSE THE POLARITY?") Crusher was okay. I have no memory of Wesley. Far too many episodes were shabby retreads (down to the titles) of TOS episodes (and I grew up with the original series, so I really did have high hopes and eagerness for TNG going in.)

It's not like I expect a show to be perfect. I can deal with one or two annoying or boring characters if the rest of the cast interests me enough; I can cut a show slack if it falls down on characterization but has interesting plots or worldbuilding or even cool scenery, (Yes, I also found the sets bland.) I know people love TNG, and so I usually keep my negative comments to myself (unless asked to expound :p). For me, TNG just didn't have enough on the plus side of the ledger. I've heard it got better in later seasons, but... I really don't care.

(And obviously, having said all this, when DS9 hit on all cylinders for me, almost from the start, I was astounded. I'm in the middle of yet another rewatch of DS9 right now, and I'm so happy that I have a fandom friend to burble about it with, because it's one of my absolute favorites.)

Re: How to deal with heat

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, and it's not really even summer yet! I'm sorry, I'm in coastal southern California, so my fixits probably won't be much help, but keeping spray bottles of water in the fridge to spritz myself with and camping out in front of a big fan (no AC here but then around here people aren't usually in danger of dying without it) help. A couple of drops of peppermint oil in the water can make it seem cooler, too. I have oily skin but it's not humid and hot at the same time here very often--maybe peppermint oil again, a couple of drops to a bowlful of cool water, and just wipe your face and neck with a washcloth dipped in and wrung out every so often?

Re: Advice thread

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't seem like a bad idea. Cats are pretty self sufficient, so as long as you don't leave it home for like 3 days, it will be fine. If you are going to therapy anyways, it seems you are taking care of your emotional needs.

Re: How to deal with heat

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Can't help, except to comment that I hate heat, too. I come from a land of snow and ice, now live somewhere that is crazy humid and hot. I hate the feeling of sweat rolling down my back as I'm wearing work clothes. I genuinely fear I sweat more than the average person, or otherwise I don't know how everyone else walks around every day standing this without being as dramatic as I am.

For what it's worth though, I don't think having oily skin is bad for your skin? Actually, I hear oily skin tends to be softer and go without wrinkling longer. You just had the disadvantage of looking oily.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Not just the middle ages have forgettable monarchs of course. There is the Georges. We only remember three out of five at best, the mad one, the fat and mad one, and the stuttering one. And two of those are only because there were movies about them. Or William the IV, had a head shaped like a pineapple and forced himself to live for an extra nine months just out of spite. And of course Queen Anne, about whom nobody much remembers except she had nice chairs.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-26 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Still a better end than Edward II. And his end is all anyone remembers, in one form or another.

Yes, oily skin means less wrinkles when I'm older. Right now, though, it means acne, which gets worse the hotter and more humid it is.
