Far-left liberals are getting scarier than conservatives.

Say what you will, none of the conservatives I've come across have yelled at me because the word "stupid" is offensive.

I know that you are going to take what I'm about to say as proof that your thesis is correct. I want to say that, while I mean what I'm about to say very thoroughly, I fully respect your right to voice your opinion and don't want to denigrate the importance of an open and hearty debate.

With that said, your opinion is stupid as fucking shit.

Why is that worse than being yelled at for the reasons conservatives yell at people?

Re: Unpopular / Controversial Opinions

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Conservatives actively want to take away my rights so they'll always be scarier.

But far left liberals do have some issues lately with tolerance, as ironic as that may seem.

Your reasoning is dumb, but the more I interact with the far-left, the more I believe the horseshoe theory is true. So much sex negativity disguised as concern for women.

"Some people on the far left think dumb wrong things" is true but not necessarily evidence for the horseshoe theory

Both are scary.

The far-left is just as violent as the far right. Groups like the Red Army Faction and ELF actively destroy property and try to kill people. But the right has their own groups like this. The left isn't worse or more scary than the right.

Re: Unpopular / Controversial Opinions

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Really? We're going with the Red Army Faction as our example here?

Far-left terrorist organization and might be in the middle of a resurgence? Yeah?

Re: Unpopular / Controversial Opinions

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
it was the "from the 70s" bit that I was objecting to so if you think they're in a resurgence then fair enough

Well, for one thing they were operating openly up until the 90s. So, not exactly some 70s relic. Also, not irrelevant to my point, which was that the left has these groups just like the right.

But yeah, some members were involved in an attempted robbery of €1m just a couple years ago and I've seen the name come up a few times since then as a group that police and intelligence groups are worried about. Especially with the continued increase of far-right politics.

where have you seen this outside of tumblr sjw circles who aren't even old enough to vote?

Honestly I can't say I gaf about the far left being violent when they're punching people who are advocating for genocide. It's about time they got a spine.

When will people learn that if someone wants you dead, having a 'civil conversation' with them is not going to change anything.

This.

Re: Unpopular / Controversial Opinions

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
LOL... because getting yelled at is much scarier than destroying the planet, civil rights, women's bodily autonomy, the healthcare system, social programs, etc. etc... But forget all that piffling nonsense, someone spoke harshly to you!

Re: Unpopular / Controversial Opinions

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is basically the bottom line. Like, I actually understand where the OP is coming from and it really gets under my skin and bothers me how radicalized some of the left has become (especially on the internet). But it just doesn't compare to the right, which continues to pose a genuine and serious threat to millions of people's rights and freedoms.

This makes me think of when guys make the argument that straight, white males are the most discriminated against group out there. And I'm just like, "You're comparing mosquito bites to dog bites here. Yes, mosquito bites are annoying as fuck and it can ruin your day if you're constantly having to swat away mosquitoes. But that does not compare to being MAULED BY A DOG - which is far more analogous to the kind of discrimination that involves literally having your rights and freedoms undermines and/or taken away.

Well I agree with you on this. I also think the horseshoe theory mentioned upthread is true - extremes of either side are equally scary.

They're not liberals. There's nothing liberal about them.

Same goes for progressives.

Liberalism is dead.

Almost entirely, yeah.

That being said, in our place and age (though not so much before the fall of the USSR), the authoritarian right is more terrifying than the authoritarian left.

As scary as far right conservatives, yes. Both are willing to be straight up horrific to their opponents because the both believe the are totally right. I will say I personally feel more fear from antifa than I ever did the right, but that's just cause the right simply insulted me rather than openly threatening violence against me. I get that that's because of where I sit rather than a reflection of how nadneach side is.

Re: Unpopular / Controversial Opinions

(Anonymous) 2017-05-27 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
While I agree that yelling at someone for using "stupid" is definitely over the top, far-right conservatives:

Would prefer women (and the fetus involved) die than said woman having an abortion.

Would deny as many legal rights as possible to those who are not cis/heterosexual. Which means losing things like housing and jobs on the whim of someone's religious beliefs.

Would prefer children, the elderly, and disabled die because they are just "leeches" on society.

I think being yelled at pales in comparison to taking away individuals' very life and liberty.
