SW sequel fandom needs to take a chill pill the size of Carrie's decorative Prozac one.

Listen to them and every character and relationship are ruined forever seven months prior to the actual movie release.

The usual. Rey is FOREVER RUINED if she's Luke Skywalker's daughter! Cause, you know, being related to a MAN is SOOOOO BAD don'tcha know?

Which is HILARIOUS since, you know, the WHOLE MOVIE was spelling that out like crazy.

That and Daisy did an interview during Celebration where she was comparing the speculation to Mark's experience after Empire came out and the denial from the fandom then to now (people didn't want to believe that Vader was Luke's dad). That and she said that the first movie answered that question well, she thought.

Also, Mark's FACE the entire interview was hilarious and painful because, he was feeling like crap, but also just STARING at her like "wtf, daisy, stfu!"

Where are you even coming from with the "they hate it because being related to a man is so bad!" stuff? I imagine that most people who don't want Rey to be Luke's daughter feel that way just because they want a protagonist who isn't a Skywalker.

Then they watching the wrong movie.

If I wanted a movie where the protagonist isn't a Corleone, I wouldn't watch the godfather...

True! I'm just pointing out that their actual justifications seem, for the most part, to be totally different from the frankly bizarre "being related to a man is bad!" strawman. It may be a misplaced desire to not want Rey Skywalker, but at least I can understand where they're coming from. I don't even understand what the person I was replying to was trying to insinuate.

I'd guess they may be conflating the small few radical feminists who have undoubtedly joined the fandom since Rey - Small but fucking vocal - with the larger numbers of new fans who just don't like the Skywalker story.

I think I'm broadly on you side, but I can't say I don't see where the confusion comes from.

Finn side of fandom is freaking out over the movie not addressing the question of whether or not Finn is actually Force-sensitive, people thinking Kathleen Kennedy is a spawn of Satan and will spit on Carrie's legacy when it comes to handling the plot of IX following her premature death, Poe side of fandom freaking out about what the slap means, if Poe is going to get demoted to Captain because it's what's written on the Lego box, and if Poe will have a no homo moment in EP VIII because he has at least one scene with a woman not Carrie Fisher.

Don't forget that Mark Hamill has pulled an Alec Guinness and is saying he hated his Last Jedi role. Allegedly.

It is a glorious shitstorm!

Then they explained on twitter that Mark Hamill finally came around to what Rian Johnson was pulling off, but it's too late/ "it's just PR damage control".

I would find the shitstorm glorious if the ST characters and some parts of the fandom weren't so dear to my heart, tbh :-(

The Mark Hamill thing is pure free publicity, is my take on it. Grumpy elder actor is grumpy. The millennial viewership is on that like a fly on dogshit, they will be in the theater first day just so they can say elders are being overreacting old people and that the young generation totally understand whatever it is Hamill was supposed to be grumpy about and he shouldn't be grumpy.

LOL, Mark didn't like where they headed things with Luke. That's it. And if it's what I think it is? I AM SO STOKED FOR IT BECAUSE I WAS CALLING IT.

I've been watching the whole thing go down and I'm just like o_O at all the assumptions they're making now and have made in the past that they took as fact, and how personally they're taking things. We're not going to really know anything until the last movie comes out. Even then, the whole beauty of fandom is to ignore the stuff you don't like.

I don't understand people being so outraged before knowing the facts (especially for a movie!) or how they can be just so nasty to people they don't know about things that might not even happen. And, how they KNOW how it will go from a picture, a toy box, a three-second scene.

And the ones that are really annoying to me are all the people who are mad about not having any aliens they know. Like, you've been whining for two years that TFA was too much like ANH and didn't have enough unique about it. Now that they're making new aliens, they should only be using aliens you know? Seriously, these people want to hate the movies.

I feel bad for all the people involved in making the movies, to be honest.
