I try not to be embarrassed because it's pretty common now and I'm not sponging off of them, but I still feel weird about it.

I feel weird about it occasionally, but then I think about where I'd be if they couldn't or wouldn't support me for now and it's terrifying, and then I'm satisfied that we're all happier this way.

Plus I sort of compare myself to my brother. He's ostensibly supporting himself (and his girlfriend) but he constantly asks my parents for money because he's apparently incapable of managing money responsibly. My parents get much more frustrated with him than me.

Ditto. It used to embarrass the hell out of me because all my other friends had moved out and I was the only one still living with my parents, but it's given me the opportunity to build a nest egg and learn to manage my money better. My line of work isn't reliable and I go three months without receiving any checks, so I feel very fortunate to be able to live in a place where I won't get kicked out if I'm unable to pay the rent that month. Now if only they'd stop treating me like I was still seventeen.

So do I, except I do get ashamed about it. It's kinda complicated because our monies are all tied up together, so it's not EXACTLY like I'm sponging off them, but I've never worked so it is a little bit, I guess? But I also look after them and the house because both of my parents have various health problems, so it's not like I don't pitch in. And I can't imagine not living without my mum around, she's awesome.

I'd say ditto, except now mom's in a board and care and started hospice, so I'm living in her house without her. It's kind of lonely and weird, honestly, and I wonder if I'll ever just think of it as my house, even after she's been dead awhile. We don't and haven't always gotten on, but we're codependent as fuck. I think I'll be okay without her, but it still sucks because now I'm The Adult. I'm almost old enough to have adult kids, I picked the place to get my dad cremated when mom and his brothers were flipping out. Sorry for dumping, just feeling strange and low key awful today.

I live with my father, and I try not to feel weird about it, but I still often feel the need to defend the validity of my situation to people.

As in, my father is my best friend and favorite person in the world. I like living with him.

As in, I pay my share of the expenses.

As in, we function together and share a lot of things, but he treats me like an equal and I do my own laundry and go grocery shopping and pay bills and share in the cooking and chores, and yes, I let him know where I am if I'm out late, because that's courteous, but he'd never act like he had the right to dictate what I do with my time.

Up until last year, I lived with mine and it was a great advantage. And even now, I live a mile from them and still visit them almost every day. I've been able to save so much money by staying at home longer and it was nice to have a great support system while I was in school.
