How rude is it to quit by just handing your boss a resignation letter that says "Please accept this letter as notice of my resignation. My last day of employment will be June 2, 2017." and walking out without saying anything?

Depends on the situation. If they were a good boss, I think some sort of conversation would be in order. Especially if you think a future employer would ever want to call this person for a reference (because sometimes they call the people you tell them not to). But I'm guessing this is more along the lines of a toxic work environment? If they have treated you poorly, I think you're fine, with that same caveat of future employers.

Oh geez. Yeah, I think you're justified in doing exactly that. Just be prepared for him to be an ass and nag at you about how shocked he is that you're actually quitting. They obviously take advantage of you, and types like that are always surprised when their victim stands up for themselves. Then be prepared for anger from him. And when future employers call him, be prepared for him to badmouth you (prep for this and give a civil and professional warning to interviewers).

Good luck. I know you can do it!

Considering what your boss is like, he should think himself lucky you're not flinging a turd with "I quit" stamped on it.

Wish I could play this on a tiny TV as I walked out. https://youtu.be/5FjWe31S_0g

How much do you care about being rude? I mean really? You need a mediocre reference that bad? Like he knows you're not happy there, you thing he's going to give you a glowing reference for quitting the job "properly"? Still, could be that a Luke warm reference is better than no reference.

All the same I'm not sure I'd call it rude, per we.

I mean its more... Assertive than rude, a touch in professional, if you care about being unprofessional to this guy. and depending on how this dick-rat responds you have the possibility of being much ruder. Like if he tries to talk to you about it and you just blank him, that might be rude, but kinda satisfying.

More than likely he'll be expecting this and probably won't kick off.

Me? If I didn't care about a reference, being rude would not be a thing I concerned myself with.

So... Slightly rude-ish, but that's not a bad thing.

Okay.:| I think I am just super nervous about and wanted some second opinions.

I say go for it. What's he going to do in retaliation, impose draconian bathroom regulations for your last days?

Don't. It may be tempting, but if you plan on working in the same field, and/or mentioning the employer on your resume, it could be bad.

Too late. But no, I am never, ever, ever, ever working in the same field. It was just a warehouse job, so not really a field.
