Basically my thoughts.

If in the current climate you don't see how posing with a severed head, mock or otherwise, is offensive then there is something wrong with your head.

Remember how George W Bush's head was up on the wall of the Red Keep with Ned Stark's? Good times.

Because it's boring is how.

You know what really bugs me?

How schizophrenic her reactions are.

One min its an unreserved "Heartfelt" apology. The next its basically "Trump is evil and deserves it" alongside weeping how "He broke me". No the tough guy attitude.

I was OK with the Photo, but this flip flopping just makes me think she's trying out reactions to see which one plays better. "Am I humble?" "Am I defending minorities against a tyrant?" "Am I a victim?" "Am I a badass?"

No, you're a semi washed up comedian who tried to be edgy but didn't know the best way to play it.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-05 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
like c'mon, stick with your initial thought. You're not sorry, we know you're not, cool. Conservatives love free speech until it happens to their god.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-05 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.

If she can't take the heat, she should stay out of the kitchen.

It hasn't been schizophrenic, she was standing strong and then had a barrage of death threats and rape threats and everything cancelled on her because of Trump. She was beaten down until she felt broken. As far as I've seen, it hasn't flip flopped it's just one woman reacting to overwhelming attacks.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-06 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Last line of this sums it up! Good on ya, Waco!

The last person I recall posing with a fake severed head was a member of GWAR. "Shocking" might not be the right word, but it's at least unconventional.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-05 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
She was trying for shock comedy and failed, probably because A) we live in a pearl-clutching society and B) KG isn't very funny. The outcry over her stupid stunt is funnier than anything she's ever done or said.

There are some people who keep going on about our overly sensitive society like this, but I don't really see how that talking point applies here. Can you point me to a period in our history when people wouldn't be complaining about a photo of someone holding the president's severed head?

I'm not even talking about whether people are right to complain or not. I just don't see how it's an issue of modern PC culture or whatever.

My thought are, if you run on a platform of "Fuck special snowflakes and their boo hoo outraged tRiGgErEd over every single thing." then you lose the right to get outraged and triggered over shit like this.

It reminds me of how my obnoxious relatives post every anti-liberal boycott against everything and talk about voting with their dollar, then scream that liberals boycotting Chik-fil-a and Hobby Lobby is financial blackmail and they shouldn't be allowed to do it.

"financial blackmail?"

That's a new one. I've seen people call it "silencing" and talk about 'freedom of speeeech' but I've yet to see that.

EDIT: but I understand that. I always see my uncle and cousin talking about the "crybaby generation" on Facebook and roll my eyes thinking of how if someone even suggested something about a law requiring people to respect LGBT people and stuff they'd lose their shit because "muh freedom of religion"

LMFAO. That's new to me too. People are...really something.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

Add to the fact that a lot of the people 'outraged' and 'shocked' were supportive of people's "free speech" when it came to protesters with images of the Obamas being hanged or burned on crosses. The president that's so upset about this image is also the one that threatens people and talks about grabbing people by their privates. The hypocrisy in the whole thing is amazing.

Yes to all of this.

I've never cared for her, and even though I hate Trump, I didn't think it was funny--but

I did read a very interesting article about the double-standard against female comedians who pull that kind of "shock" controversial comedy and their male counterparts. Basically, the point is that while it would have still been controversial coming from Louis C.K. or someone like that, the public outcry/media backlash was even more extreme because Griffen is a woman. And I couldn't quite disagree.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-06 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
From Louis CK it would probably be at least mildly shocking. From someone like, say, Gilbert Gottfried it would be yawn-inducing.

+1

(Anonymous) 2017-06-06 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
i feel like if she were male, the attention to this stunt would have ended by now.

Right. Because it's not like a male rodeo clown lost his job for wearing an Obama mask or anything, even though he'd worn the masks of previous presidents as well.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-06 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Same.
Conservatives have done and said things a million times worse so smh.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-06 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it was stupid and not funny and, yeah, offensive. I don't like Trump at all. I think he's a bad person and a terrible leader. But I am not okay with anybody implying somebody who is not a murderer or physically threatening imminent harm to someone else should die. And beheading has a certain connotation.

I believe she as the right to do so without retaliation from the government (freedom of expression, though, I believe, not freedom of speech). Just as other people have the right to react. But just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

Also, if you're okay with this, but are up in arms with the death threats she's getting, would it be more palatable to you if every threat had a "jk" after it? Because that fact that it's a joke, even if it's not funny, makes it okay, right? I'm not okay with either.

I think it was pretty tasteless but when they tried to go for a sympathy "oh his son had to see that picture!" I just remember all of the really racist and violent demonstrations (protests? mobs??) of people where they burned a lynched dummy made to look like Obama and shit like that. His daughters were that age, and maybe they were done by some southern minister or some shit instead of kathy griffin but still... it's telling that this is what got people outraged.
