If you want an (IMO) better singing performance from him - Moulin Rogue.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen Moulin Rogue a few times, and, yeah, I guess you're right, that really was a better singing performance. Still, never found him the least bit interesting until now...which is, admittedly, rather odd. - OP

The only thing I've ever found him interesting or the least bit attractive in was in his documentary Long Way Round. I think there's just some random things that will click with people, and it's not necessarily the person but the situation. Idk. Brains and emotions and attraction are weird.

He and Charlie are so awesome in that.

Now that I'm older I have realized that Ewan McGregor in the prequel Star Wars is so fucking attractive.

Idgaf about the actor in other media but dang.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
what the fuck, that is some major uncanny valley right there. I'm glad I didn't go to see this movie.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-12 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it looks that bad when in motion, though.

...I'm on the fence about seeing this movie but I think the costumes are going to win out in the end.
That's seriously Ewan McGregor? *squints* I know my facial recognition isn't the best, but man, I just can't see it. Would definitely recognize his voice though.

I grew up in the 90s and I hated the animated movie. Still do. Well, I recognize its artistic value but I can't stand the movie itself, if that makes sense. So maybe I'll like the live action version better?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
OP here and, as I said, I never liked the original movie. I remember liking some songs, but I don't think I've seen it more than once. I had no intention of seeing this movie and just about the only things I knew was that Emma Watson was in it. I had no idea Lumiere was played by Ewan McGregor until the very end when he turned back into a human.

Anyway, I did end up liking this movie a lot more than I expected, so maybe you will, too? I found Belle to be a much more interesting character than before and, in general, I think all of the characters have been given more depth. Visually, it's really impressive, what with the costumes, the colours...really, really beautiful. The cast is pretty amazing, too. So maybe give it a chance?

I could probably spare a dollar and get it from Redbox one of these days.

I had no plans about seeing this one because I felt the same way that you did about the original. Guess it might be worth giving it a chance?

It wasn't until I saw this secret that I realized there are probably people out there who would love a Ewanliere shaped dildo. Or, you know, BatB smut with Lumiere crawling right up in there.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Okaaay...That's kinda fucked up, imho. I mean, yeah, I made this secret and all, but never, in a million years, would I come up with *that* idea.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not anything with the content of the secret, I'd just never seen the Lumiere CGI, and that was my first thought when I did, and the first time I'd had it...but please tell me more about all the things you find fucked up.

Mmmmm, Ewan. He's a guy that for me looks better with facial hair. So I liked him in this movie.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Funny, I was just looking at some stills from Attack of the Clones and thinking it really didn't work on him. (Mark Hamill otoh is one of the few people I think really benefit from a neat beard.)

Ah. For me, AOTC was the first time I found him attractive (though he was even more so in ROTS).

He looks better with it in RotS. Part of that has to do with the fact that his HAIR was better looking in RotS.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-12 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same. I liked his character in the SW prequels, but never thought he was attractive. Perhaps it just has something to do with the fact that I feel he looks so much better now that he's a bit older. Also, that beard...no.

I like this one better than the original BatB too. It fixes up some stuff I didn't like about the original, like Maurice being really unlikeable ("Where have you taken us Philippe?" EXCUSE ME HE WANTED TO LEAVE AND YOU MADE HIM COME HERE YOU JERK) and I don't like Belle's speaking voice. I also really like the songs Days in teh Sun and Evermore.

THIS IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE ASHAMED OF!

And while I think that both of them are very good-- I can tell that there are some tweaks that make the movie better while some things really made the animated feature what it was. I have to say that I went into watching the current one trying desperately not to judge it toward the one of my childhood-- and for the most part because I did that, I wasn't disappointed.

But yes, Ewan MacGregor as a talking candelabra, so much win!

(Anonymous) 2017-06-12 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
No shame, OP. I really enjoyed it too (as a 90s child, I think animated B&tB will be my favorite, but this one was very nice), and you like what you like...including Ewan McGregor (whom I love). I didn't realize it was him until the end of the movie and I was so happy!

Complete aside -- as lovely as Emma Watson looked, I wanted to see more acting from her. :( I expected more. I feel like all the secondary characters delivered SO much more. But that's just me.

He's on Fargo this season and he looks... different.

Yeah, I'm a huge Fargo fan and was a bit unsure about Ewan pulling it off...but he's fantastic it. Not attractive, mind you, but he's not supposed to be anyway. - op
