And come on, there's no need to be short with me. I'm usually on your side of this argument. And if I felt case warranted it, Id be on your side again.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)Nah context matters.
"It feels racist and stereotyping when you say this."
Yeah, that person is saying "you should stop doing that because it sounds racist and stereotyping," not "I personally perceive that it's racist and stereotyping but that's okay because racism and stereotyping totes are subjective and you should continue on anyway and not mind me."
When has that ever happened.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)Now, if they had said "it feels like this when I do it or read this and this is why I am uncomfortable writing or reading this" that's fine and dandy and perfectly good reason for them to not engage in something that makes them uncomfortable. When they're saying it feels this way when others do it, they are implying everyone else should stop.
"I am uncomfortable" = personal feeling
"You all make others uncomfortable" = you should stop that

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)But that makes even less sense.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)TBH I think that this line of argument (that criticism is not stopping anyone from doing anything!) often has a valid point but the reflexive use of it has reached the point where it's often almost entirely nonsensical. particularly if someone is saying that something is immoral, it's just insane.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-11 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)Exactly. You can use the 'they didn't say to stop doing it' argument if the person is saying they dislike something. That's their personal preference, which is different from saying everyone who writes or draws for a certain kind of ship is, basically, contributing to oppression and stereotyping of others and of themselves.
I would like to see anon argue this is not a moral judgment because I imagine it's fantastically convoluted and full of backpedaling.
