Well, it would be disturbing if canons often depicted actually underage people being groomed or dated by older people in same-sex relationships in a positive light, and it is possibly a (relatively harmless) side effect of the stereotype when it happens in fandom. But that's not what I'm looking at, is it?

Personally I am very okay with older women being treated as desirable by younger people, male or female, half as often as older male characters get the same treatment.

It's funny, 'cause I was just thinking today how frustrating I find it when people always seem to ship the paternal type relationships into romantic shipping. And I would much prefer people explore that mentor or parent type bond, but it's not a same sex or het thing. It's just in general. And I def don't have a problem with it because it's ~pedophilia~ or some nonsense.

I feel you, OP. I have this major squirk for mentor/protege ships regardless of the gender(s) of people involved. I can usually do May/December romances--unless one of the characters is clearly the "mentor"/"boss"/"teacher" figure.

So, Marianne/ Colonel Brandon is fine for me, whereas Lupin/Hermione (or Lupin/Harry or Trelawney/Lavender Brown for that matter) would make me uncomfortable.

I suspect that this may be more easily explained by the low numbers of canons with two meaty female characters. Mentor/mentee and adversaries are going to be of the more common situations.

Better question: do you feel like actual screenwriters are promoting predatory pedophilic relationships with actual canon ships with big age gaps between mentor/mentee or adversaries like Gil Grissom/Sara Sidle on CSI or does that only happen if it's a gay relationship?
