I actually try to avoid trailers but then I get into a situation where I go to the theater to see a movie and if I want a decent seat I need to get there early, so I end up seeing the trailers anyway.

I usually have some small earbuds with me & listen to a podcast while I wait for the film.

I tried this but the ads were so loud I couldn't hear my podcast :(

ayrt

that's an interesting idea. I think I'll give it a try.

This is me as well. I try to avoid being spoiled as much as I can, and I don't look at trailers on YouTube, but I can't help but see the ones in front of a different movie I'm going to watch.

Oh you poor soul. Does your insurance provider not cover eyelid reconstruction surgery?

Oh, FFS. Most everyone was being so reasonable until this point. Even if I closed my eyes, I could still hear everything. Unless I also stuck my fingers in my ears and said "LA LA LA" at the same time. Which might, perhaps, be annoying to the people around me.

I'm not saying that they have to stop making trailers that give away points of the movie. I know some people enjoy those trailers, and that is totally fine. I'm just saying that it isn't always possible to be able to avoid them.

You can get a bag of disposable foam ear plugs for less than a dollar. No need to la-la-la. And you can use them when your neighbor mows the lawn at 6am too. Close your eyes, plug your ears, and you've taken responsibility for avoiding spoilers at the movies.

My mom regularly wears foam earplugs while watching the actual movie at our local movie theater, and she can always hear it just fine, so this technique won't actually work unless your theater is a lot quieter than mine is.

A friend of mine used to close her eyes and plug her ears with her fingers and hum. Or if you have friends that will hold your seat and don't want to plug your ears, you could go out the door then peek in occasionally to see if the previews ended. It's not impossible to avoid.

I watch movies by myself. If I'm going out with friends,I tend to want to do things where I can interact with them. I've mostly managed to avoid them because I tend to watch movies at my little local cinema, which doesn't show any previews. I do appreciate the suggestions, though.
