Okay, but who still uses FF.net when AO3 exists??????

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
A number of authors still post to both places.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
DA - I do both because I get a fair number of comments and hits on both. There's not really any reason not to aside from the additional couple of minutes it takes to cross post.

For me, I tend to get more reviews on ff.net vs nothing but kudos on AO3. While I appreciate both, it's also nice to know what people actually think of what they read.

This.

like el_regrs said, there's better commenting culture on ffnet. And I mean, as long as there are still people reading, why NOT post on both?

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2017-06-20 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I stopped posting there because it's very aesthetically ugly to me and also incredibly unorganized compared to AO3.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah the specific tags, the separate categories, the separation of crossover and single canon fics, that is so unorganized. Nothing like AO3's big melange of who knows what the fuck. AO3 is the unorganized one there, matey.

Yeah, as if AO3 isn't ugly, too. I had to do a lot of tweaking and adding code to make AO3 readable for me.

...unorganized? I like ff.net's search functions far better than AO3. Not to mention I can search my favorite pairs better. And I actually like ff.net's layout better, not to mention the option to turn the background dark and the print white. Makes reading in the dark easier on my eyes.

More readers reached = more feedback, and as a very private middle finger to every person who ever went "lol pit of voles" on LJ back in the day, because FFN didn't deserve that scorn.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's also used for sorting because some big pre-Ao3 fandoms have a lot of fic there, but not on Ao3. I know there was drama a couple years ago when I think it was Stargate Atlantis got into Yuletide as a tiny fandom, because all the fic for it was ff.net or other websites.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
You just reminded me there's probably a treasure trove of HP fic lurking in the bowels ff.net....

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
With 760,000+ HP fics on FF.net vs. 140,000+ on AO3, that might just be true. *g*

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
You've asked this before, and it's been answered before.

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2017-06-20 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I was shocked before. I'll be shocked again. It's a crap site.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
No it's not.

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2017-06-20 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sure.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. So it's not a genuine question, just the performative "shock" of a child. Thank you for explaining.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Serious question: Have you not seen AFF.net? (AdultFanFiction.net)

For me, AFF is the true crap standard.

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2017-06-20 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't been on that site in 5+ years. I literally only use AO3 to write and read fic. I will occassionally go to LiveJournal to read old bookmarks though.

I will admit I am not a huge fan of FF.net for a number of reasons but there are some authors who ONLY post to ff.net and for some fandoms, it's still the only place to find most of the fic. For one of my fandoms, there are just over 3000 fics on AO3 but over 20 thousand on ff.net. I wish AO3 was the go to site for most fic, but sadly it is not.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Why would I switch to AO3????
My fandoms are barely represented there, I don't like the format, and I neither read nor write smut. There's no draw for me whatsoever.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-20 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
As a reader and rarepair shipper my chances of finding fic are a lot higher on FF.net than on AO3. As a writer, my chances of getting favourites and comments are still a lot higher than on AO3. I'm posting to both sites, and the difference is remarkable.
